I am just back from the game. I am here with JJ. We have chocolate and we are discussing the game. Here are my insights.

The game was won in the second half. Coach Larry used Johnson properly. I thought Thomas proved he belongs. Cincinnati has to do better getting the ball after the opponent misses.

You could tell Houston was afraid. This was a step towards the championship.

There is a new man in charge of the game at UC.

Shaq was star of the game. He didn't do his Curley Neal dribbling exibition, he made good cuts and squared up.
AHC Davis gave him a long ATTABOY at the end.
Maybe the spell on the bench tightened the lightbulb.

Omg. Did you just vouch for Shaq Thomas?05-stirthepot

It was difficult for me to type, but I actually think he can be useful at the 4 especially against the zone.

Not a chance at that number. I'd bet 8k max.

Thank you for acknowledging your complete 180. I think Shaq has it in him. And I do like him coming off the bench. He just needs to be more assertive when he is out there because he has the physical gifts. When he moves with purpose he can be pretty good.

I prefer him at the for because it means he doesn't have to dribble as much.

RE: Houston game
I think one of the reasons we have been sluggish in the first half is because we have been taking advantage of a pretty deep bench. We sub early and often and keep the pressure on. The opposition has been subbing when they need to due to fouls and such. It's made for matchups in the second half where we have fresh legs vs tired, and 1st team vs backups that don't play much. That won't work in March, but it sure does against shallow benches right now.

Safe to say that Duane really got after the refs in the first half, leading to some favorable calls in the 2nd. Highly deserving of a game ball if you ask me.

The best game Shaq Thomas has played all year...This is the guy we need to play well...he can be a difference maker the rest of the way...Another great second half!!

RE: Houston game
One thing that has become clear watching this team over the last month, Caupain is the best player on this team. The offense generally runs well when he is on the floor. He's shooting 40% from three, he's getting 4 assists a game. He is the true point guard UC has been missing for a long time. There are times late in the shot clock I wish he'd get the ball and force the issue a little bit, but what he does well is get the team into whatever they need to be in and then distribute the ball to where it needs to do. He should probably shoot more, but he takes good shots and makes them at a solid rate. He's going to end up UC's best point guard since Logan.

Against the best teams on the schedule the staff needs to play him closer to 35 minutes than the 30 he is playing on the year. He's just that important.

Agree for the most part but Cashmere was a heck of a player. I don't think Troy is a better player yet but will be over his last two seasons. It's great to have the most important position on the court handled for the next 2 1/2 years. It's no coincidence that our sweet 16 and beyond teams follow our best point guards of Shoemaker era: Van Exel, Satt and Lo, and Cashmere. A common characteristic of our teams who fell short was poor PG play.

Troy is a tough dude when the guy landed on his chest at half court me and my buddies joked that we would still be laying there and he popped up pretty quick!!!

It amazing to see contributions coming from all over the roster. I've been impressed with our JUCO transfers as well. Both Coreontae and Farad have been instrumental in a lot of our victories this year from an offensive and defensive standpoint. How big were those pickups?

I've had this same thought. How many times nowadays can a team rely on multiple JUCOs to win games for them? Ellis and Cobb have each won games for UC, and DeBerry can give spurts of quality minutes.

I realize this isn't the Big East of old, but it's still impressive.

No way there was almost 10,000 in attendance ( maybe paid ), also, did not see anybody in row 9 I recognized. I might be a worry wart, but this game Sunday scares me. This would be a very bad loss on the resume.
