Did anyone else notice that we had an entirely different set to break the Cincinnati press?

Did a great job breaking the press. I think that they only gave up one turnover.

Agreed that the strategy used to break the press worked great...They guys were prepared and took advantage of it...

The players must have drawn up those sets because we have been told by the same posters over and over that Pastner can't coach. We only win when the players play well and when we loose it is because Pastner can't coach.

Crazy thing is the players who seem like they understand the sets the most (outside of Austin) are the ones who just got here this year.

That was very fun to watch again..actually...I kept watchin the second half just to check out the press and how we handled it. Kedren doesn't panic. He's not afraid to lose ground before he crosses midcourt....Now that I'm a 'football fan' he reminds me of a QB scrambling for the open man.
Fun game.

We were a little sketchy the first time or two, but after that it went well.

Pastner said it was Robert Kirby who came up with the set to break the press.

Easily the best we've done against the press all year.

Let's finish the season before we start claiming everything fixed, that was not a good Cincy team. Proud of the players for playing so hard, glad to see Johnson have some fun on the court and Austin is really really good, but we knew that last year. Once you lose to CBU, SFA and Tulane it could only go up right?

Cannot have it both ways, That "was not a good Cincy team" had an RPI of 37. So if we beat em', they are not very good, but if we don't "we have yet to beat a top 100 RPI team"?

I think it's just a case of two statements that are true when considered like this - Cincy did not LOOK like a good team last night but they do have an RPI of 37.
I think the truth is somewhere in the middle - they are probably better than they showed last night and Memphis' half court defense had something to do with that as well.
It is just such a down year in basketball that a team in the RPI 30s is probably not THAT good in the grand scheme of things, and probably not on a historical level either.
IMO - Memphis is 91 this morning and could easily be in the 30s.
Just don't think there is much differential after a handful of teams at the top.

RPI is not the best measure of a team...
KU is ranked #1 ahead of a undefeated UK team that beat them by 32

I guess having gone to games for many many years, I use the eye test more than computer numbers, not one of the better Cincy teams we have ever played. It was a really good win for this team especially given our struggles but I am just not ready like some to proclaim everything fixed and we are about to take off.

Cincy is currently 42 in Kenpom. Kenpom has Virginia 1, Kentucky 2 and Kansas 14 which is pretty accurate.

Very true; we had a few turnovers at first, but adjusted and really blew it apart after that. In my opinion, even though we broke it, it wasn't fluid. It seemed that the players didn't do it intuitively; they did it by knowing that they had to be in certain spots.
Did anyone else get this impression?

Let's hope that you are right. Hopefully, Cincinnati is a lousy team and we are not making progress.

It describes what I was thinking during the game. We didn't turn it over much against the press but we didn't look very confident bring the ball up court. Too close to getting 10 second calls, and passes that were very nearly thrown away. As Tiger fans we're used to just giving the ball to one of our lightning fast point guards and watching them run right through the press. I was hoping to see us find a way to get the ball up court quicker and get some easy buckets off their press.
I give the coaches and the players credit, they got it done. I looked at the stats late in the game and we had 8 turnovers. That in itself was a huge improvement.
