Assuming ground does not break on a new convo in next 18 months, i would project we get rid of Brady after next year for the small buyout that is in place and avoid the lame duck final year. However, without new facilities in the works I feel that our ceiling for a new head coach is someone from a small school with limited experience like Wes Miller (if hiring a current head coach) or an assistant from a mid major.

As someone mentioned - not having firm plans for new facilities will ABSOLUTELY have a major impact on the recruitment of a new coach.

When is our "early 2015" vision statement from Bourne ???

This. I currently feel as down on JMU sports as I have in a long time- not that my feelings mean anything or should drive me. Yes, there are some bright spots (namely WBB), but I realize that in our current situation we have hit a ceiling of sorts. MBB has been a smoldering dumpster fire for too long. If we stay fcs there is no way we keep EW, and the whole freaking thing is watered down anyway. (losing Oduh, real gsu, appy etc). I am excited about what is happenin in fb, but it will only lead to more frustration in the end. Doom and gloom- we need to move out and move up. yes, "up"- out of the CAA- wbb rpi notwithstanding. whatever, who cares. late.

I feel the same way. The men's game at Drexel tonight is the first time since playing Ohio State that I've been able to catch a game on TV. Even though Drexel is a dumpster fire right now, I know the Dukes are going to lose and it probably won't even be close.

I'm not even excited about JMU sports anymore. I live too far away, few of my college friends still care about the teams and I've resigned myself to life in the CAA for the forseeable future. This is the first season since before I was a student that I didn't attend a single home game and I really didn't miss it all that much.

I think Blaine's a fun guy and enjoyed his banter/interactions with the media and fans, but I don't think he'll easily get back into coaching. Basketball wise Blaine did a great job at ODU - even if his final year was a dumpster fire.

The DUI at Montana obviously didn't prevent him from future employment but reading between the lines there are some who believe Blaine coached drunk/under the influence near the end at ODU. We will never know if this is true or not (hasn't been disputed yet). If true that is a line most everyone is going to have trouble ignoring. Larry Eustachy was getting drunk after games and kissing coed's on the cheek, which seems less of an issue to me than coaching the kids under the influence. Larry had to give up the booze and find the right fit before he was allowed back in, a still fairly young coach at the time compared to Blaine.

Alcoholism is a disease, so I want to be sympathetic. But the reality is we still don't know everything about how it ended at ODU, we don't know what changes Blaine has made or how it would be different. The reward is not worth the risk, without knowing more.

Maybe he's sticking with the beer now instead of the hard stuff like the Redskins new GM?!!!

Wow. Thanks for cheering me up. I realize that my outlook is not the worst or as low as it can go anyway. 04-cheers

From all appearances it appears that Blaine has cleaned up his act and looked like a different person last year on TV.

I do agree that you just never know when those demons are going to rise up again and being a D-1 basketball coach is a stressful job.

Hiring Blaine Taylor would pretty much be the last straw for me and the JMU basketball program. It would also prove to me once and for all that Bourne is truly a dunce and can't be trusted with any hiring. But, of course, that's just me. (no offense to Mr. Taylor).

Youth people, youth. Young, eager, energetic, etc, etc.

The Blaine comment was really more tongue in cheek than anything. I even said "when that gets shouted down" then gave my real thought on the matter.

That and it was a good excuse to resurrect the old Nixon shirts and bumper stickers from '88. ha.

But he does look a LOT better and like he's got his schit together and is 10 years younger.

BSKB - do you have any opinion/feeling about Will Wade (UT-C)?
I previously suggested Mike Rhoades - but he wouldn't come from Rice to JMU. Perhaps Wade might come from UT-C?

Wade looks impressive. Makes $198K on a 5 year deal as of 2013. I think what anyone would like in his bio is the community involvement/energy, his team identity on both sides of the ball and the obvious VCU connection with a quote from Shaka Smart that he connects with student athletes.

Or just do what they've done twice in a row... Hire a Billy B-Ball assistant.

KickitToScotty is on to something. We really should visit Gainesville FL and ask Billy Donovan who he recommends from either his current assistant coaches or one of previous assistant coaches. Donovan has an impressive coaching tree.

That dude is all about logistics. Can't go wrong with that.
