who should we look to bring in as our next coach?

Someone off of Tony Bennett's staff? Off of Shaka's? Off of Jeff Jones? I say let's not go after a Gaudio or Bruce Pearl (like some wanted before he took the Auburn job) but a Jason Williford who's at UVA or Bryant Stith who's at ODU. Mike Rhoades would have been a great hire but Rice called first.

I would be fine with someone from Bennett's staff. Williford would be nice if he wanted it I think. Not sure I want someone from Shaka's staff.

But I do want someone that come's from a successful program with a track-record of playing a known and consistent style of basketball.

I don't know the specifics of Brady's contract such as buyout or reasons for termination but he still has 2 more years left on his contract @300k+/yr. unless there is a cheap way out they will not eat 600k.

Jeff Capel- whatever the case they are going to need to show a bigger commitment in terms of facilities, and salary to get someone good.

annoying, but worth a shot. He actually did OK at VT, given their history and the ACC.

I would definitely make a run at Greenberg, I doubt he would be interested but if he were a GREAT hire.

Matt Brady Contract

Thought this would be of some interest.

So the way I read it, we could terminate his contract after this year and only have to pay him 1 years worth for 2016 (contract states we dont have to pay for the last year of his contract if terminated).

If we incur penalties (ie. cant play for CAA championship) because of academic APR issues then we could terminate without having to pay anything,

Correct?

these kinds of questions always come up when a coaching change is imminent, but it's simply impossible to pick out a name.

it's always best to see who emerges in the press and through the grapevine andt then chime in on who we think is best.

No one even knew who EW was when he emerged as a strong candidate, but I think Bourne et al, got that one right.

I've heard that he much prefers to ESPN to coaching at this point. I highly doubt the admin would be able to pay him enough to leave ESPN...particuarly for a dead end job like this has become.

How about the amazing Blainiac?

He's tan, rested and ready...

And he can clearly coach. He knows Va well enough and by most accounts has gotten the bud lights under control. I think he'd be eager to get back into coaching.

Now, when that gets shouted down, I still say we hack the FeceU AD and find out who is top of their list if Shaka was to ever leave- Hire that guy.

Assuming ground does not break on a new convo in next 18 months, i would project we get rid of Brady after next year for the small buyout that is in place and avoid the lame duck final year. However, without new facilities in the works I feel that our ceiling for a new head coach is someone from a small school with limited experience like Wes Miller (if hiring a current head coach) or an assistant from a mid major.

As someone mentioned - not having firm plans for new facilities will ABSOLUTELY have a major impact on the recruitment of a new coach.

When is our "early 2015" vision statement from Bourne ???

This. I currently feel as down on JMU sports as I have in a long time- not that my feelings mean anything or should drive me. Yes, there are some bright spots (namely WBB), but I realize that in our current situation we have hit a ceiling of sorts. MBB has been a smoldering dumpster fire for too long. If we stay fcs there is no way we keep EW, and the whole freaking thing is watered down anyway. (losing Oduh, real gsu, appy etc). I am excited about what is happenin in fb, but it will only lead to more frustration in the end. Doom and gloom- we need to move out and move up. yes, "up"- out of the CAA- wbb rpi notwithstanding. whatever, who cares. late.
