Yeah, my friends used to call me the paranoid UAB guy. Funny, I don't hear that nearly as much nowadays.

Haase speaks without opening his mouth... When he wore the black suit during the Black Out, when he pulled out the Birmingham Jerseys... He lets us know whose side he is on.

Haase also publicly stated on one of the post game radio shows that a strong football program helps the whole athletic department. He and his wife also attended the event for Coach Clark at Iron City.

That's not a new contract clause to protect Watts. That's the bottom line. At most businesses, if you badmouth your boss in public you will pay a price. This isn't much different except that its spelled out in the contract.

Maybe I'm a little slow too, but I really don't get the blanket contract extensions. Has any other school ever done that? UAB admins seem lazy and content to throw money at anything not related to football. Carr Study 1, Carr Study 2, Mackin hush-money, Watts PR Firm, Study of Carr Study (don't know if we're paying for that but I assume so), unearned contract extensions. And I thought the goal was "Championship Caliber" for our sports? Does anyone really believe (at this point) Coach Haase will be the man to take us their in basketball (or any of the other sports' coaches for that matter)?

The contract extensions do not involve pay increases, so no money is being thrown.

And unless you can see the future, you don't know what he is capable of. "Championship caliber" could mean conference championships and I definitely think this team has the capability to do that, if not this year with the home court advantage, but in the next few years with experience and maturity added.

If you thought Watts meant national championships, then you are as gullible as he hoped you are.

Blanket contract extensions are commonplace. You get killed in recruiting if you aren't on at least a four-year contract. The fact that no raises were given is a sign, either that UAB is being cheap (as with Getman) or that the coach's performance needs to improve (as with Haase.)

Correct. That's why it was such horsecrap that Clark was signed to a three year contract. If we had known that it would have set off alarm bells immediately.
