It's a good win. Perception is everything at this point. It put that needed P5 win in the conference ledger for this year. That far exceeds almost losing to WMU in the Bahamas.

Does it really? Everybody said that when Southern Miss went to Hawaii to play Nevada instead of Dallas to play Penn St when the Liberty Bowl told us to fudge off (and I'm going to hate myself for opening up that can of worms again), but at the end of the day, we both moved up 2 spots in the final polls. Houston didn't get bonus points for a Big Ten win.

Truthfully, all bowl games that didn't exist before 1990 seem to be met with equal amounts of "don't give a shizz" by the general public.

Furthermore, any fan base who feels the Big Ten #6 is automatically > a G5 #1 surrenders its right to complain about being mistreated based upon its conference affiliation by the media or any selection committee .

To me, it's not about when the game began... it's about when the game is played. Frankly, if the game doesn't fall between December 30th and January 1st, it doesn't matter. Even 12/30 is a stretch.

Games before Christmas aren't even on my radar. It was a struggle for me to care about the games that C-USA schools were playing in. This isn't the NFL on Thanksgiving or the NBA on Christmas Day. These are college students. Sending them to a bowl game instead of home to their families over Christmas is disgraceful, IMO. I don't really care if that makes me more old-fashioned than my status as an entitled millennial will allow.

I've gone the other direction. The only game I have turned on since Louisiana Tech wrapped up the Heart of Dallas Bowl was the Sun Bowl on CBS. The most effective stance against ESPN is to just turn it off. I will probably check in on the Armed Forces Bowl to see how the Coogs fare against Pitt.

As a football fan in the CUSA this will change for you once you are in Conference play. Pre Christmas Bowls are the equivelent of school yard tinkling contest between the G5 schools. I watched the NOLA, Potato, and Camelia Bowls because I wanted to see how we stacked up against other G5 schools. Lets just say I liked what I saw.

I watched far more games before the HOD than after. Thats a fact. I did watch a little of the Music City Bowl simply because of the impact of LSU losing. I will prolly watch a few Access Bowls, but not to the effect that I watched OUR bowls. We talk a ton of trash about each other before and after bowl season, but at some point during bowl season, I am a Rice Owl, Marshall fan, Miner, or Hilltopper. I would bet there are far more Dawgs the day after Christmas on this board than any other day of the year. All that being said. I'm a CUSA guy through and through.
