Does the AAC have a say in OOC scheduling?
Does the conference have any say in each individual member's OOC scheduling? Has anyone ever even heard of this? The reason I am asking is because I was talking to a Tennessee fan who said that UT and Baylor were close to a home and home deal, due to an opening caused by UAB shutting down football, but the SEC said no so UT scheduled someone else (can't remember who at the moment). I have no way of knowing if this is true but I don't know why it would be made up and while the SEC would never say so, he says the feeling among Tennessee fans is that the conference made the decision because the Big 12 is struggling for credibility and they didn't want a strong Big 12 team to play a weak SEC team to give them an argument after beating the SEC.
I'm guessing the AAC doesn't do this, mainly because we don't have the scheduling opportunities available to us that SEC teams have. Would there be any benefit to our conference having an overall scheduling philosophy?
I wish the conference or someone would step in and change ECU's basketball scheduling.

I dont think so. sounds like a utk fan making an excuse for playing rooster poot junior college. do you really think the SEC is gonna tell nick saban who he can and cannot shedule OOC.

No because Nick Saban is most likely going to beat whoever he schedules and make the SEC look good. While I've never heard of this before I could see them checking UT who is likely going to lose to whoever they schedule OOC and make the SEC look bad. Not saying you're not right and this is bull, but I don't think its too far out there.
As for it being an excuse, I don't really see that being the case. UT was once a proud program but has sucked for several years. That hasn't kept them from scheduling decent OOC teams (especially by SEC standards) lately. They have scheduled Oregon, Cincinnati, and Oklahoma (looks bad today but it was supposed to be a good OOC opponent) which isn't bad when your in conference schedule is tough.
I'm not defending UT, I fully support Memphis being the best football team in Tennessee and the Vols suck pretty bad right now but while it may just be a rumor I don't think it is outside of the realm of possibility that they wanted to schedule Baylor but were told (maybe asked politely?) by the SEC not to.

They scheduled Bowling Green instead which makes next years OOC schedule pretty pathetic.
I'm sure Baylor wanted this game seeing as what happened to them with their weak OOC schedule. SEC wanting Big 12 to continue to fall off and get 2 SEC teams in next year doesn't seem to far fetched either.

I just used Saban as a example. Policies have to be evenly administered throughout the league Athletic directors set the shedules and some do what the coach tells them. I have never heard a case where the sec made a member schedule a school.
Utk fans are however frequently full of shite and excuses

Yeah, you are most likely right. I just thought it was interesting. It doesn't seem possible that the conference could just out and out block that game from happening. I think it might be possible that they suggested a different opponent. More than likely just BS though.

This, plus Baylor has had SMU schedule for the date for a long time.

Does the AAC have a say in OOC scheduling?
Yeah, this rumor came off a Baylor site and is completely untrue. They want us to believe that Baylor got out of a game with SMU, scheduled Tennessee, got struck from the calendar with Tennessee and added back SMU, and that Tennessee added Bowling Green...all in the space of one week. Further, they want us to believe that Tennessee (whose athletic director is SMU's athletic director's father) would have scheduled a game against a team that had been scheduled to play at SMU on the same day.
Sorry, it's just a story that someone made up.

The SEC did not and could not tell UT not to play Baylor, and the AAC has no control over specifically who AAC teams schedule OOC.
The only controls a conference has over OOC is general and indirect. I.e., if a conference goes to a 9 game conference schedule, that eliminates an OOC game. Or a conference could adopt a policy of not playing FCS teams.

RE: Does the AAC have a say in OOC scheduling?
The only way the conference has a say in OOC games is with dates... so, like if the SEC has already made out the schedule and UT has conference games on the only days Baylor is free, then in essence the conference would be saying they can't play that game, at least on that date. I have no idea if this is the case or not.

Now that makes sense, Chappy. The conference, or any conference, can absolutely veto/have influence on a date because of the complexity of conference scheduling; but can't/shouldn't have authority to veto an opponent.
