Based on his short history as President, I don't think he is being pressured. I think he is doing his best to shut down various programs within the university. Is his endgame to return to commuter/extension university? I don't know. He could actually think he is helping UAB. But, at some point, after all the blow back every time he shut something down, you would think he would get more people involved if he wasn't being instructed on what to shut down. This is now the third or fourth major program at UAB that has been shut down, and all have been done through shady processes. Football just happens to be the most visible to date and everyone is now paying attention.

That's just my take on it.

+1 The SOM/east side has for years resented "their research overhead" being used to finance athletics. Watts became president with that as HIS agenda. Thus he did not have to sell his soul to the devil for the job - he was already a Satanist. fortunately Watts arrogance and exclusionary process will eventually be his downfall

This is what chaffs my butt. A school that produces billions in revenue has a small minority that is pissed about a 20 million subsidy for the undergraduate side and it perfectly wiling to tell them all to go to hell. These people have the vision and leadership skills of Enron execs
