ECU baseball is by no means a mess, there is talent all over that team. Just no big stars, we're used to having at least one. Also nowhere near the preseason buzz/recognition that we're accustomed to.
Cliff will play small ball....something Billy just refused to do. A lot will hinge on what he can do with the pitching staff. I have a feeling we will finish strong as the team gels.
Perhaps. Although Ole Miss was one of the leaders in the country in home runs, RBIs, BA, etc...and they bunted less than us (we were 62nd in Sac Bunts).
Much different team than we have. They had much more power in their order than we do at right now. We move to more power hitting, but it will take a year or two. Cliff has said we will play more small ball, base hitting, bunting, hit and runs, steals, etc. Our offense just wasn't good the past few years, pitching kept us in games. But, as Cliff said pitching alone will not win games. You can have great pitching, but you have to score runs to win.
IDK about you, but I was tired of seeing 1-0 and 2-1 losses.

Billy simply let left way too many runners on base waiting for someone hit hit a HR. Small ball was not his forte'.

With the new flat smeamed baseball for 2015 (tests showed it traveled 20 feet farther than the high seamed ball used in 2014), more teams will probably move away from small ball...as college baseball might be headed back to video game type scoring games (high scoring). (Personally, I think that sucks...as it was nice to have pitching/strategy involved in college baseball last few years).
NCAA to switch to Flat-Seamed Baseballs in 2015

Also, because the higher seamed ball was also much easier for pitchers to grip, that is another reason why so many pitchers jumped to the 2014 ML Draft...as their stats will most likely get worse in 2015.

The other factor is that a smoother ball will have less movement for the same RPMs as a ball with a more irregular surface. So it's a double whammy for pitchers, harder to produce RPMs and less movement for the ones they produce. College baseball is going to be fastball after fastball.

Tech hasn't been good enough in baseball for a long time, just hired a new guy from Campbell who is loading up on JUCOs
Edit: 8 teams make the CUSA tournament in Hattiesburg with 12 teams playing baseball
Greg Goff is the younger brother of a high school classmate of mine. He's a good guy and good coach. I'll be cheering for Tech baseball and I think he'll get the job done.
