Good point. Rice's $30M stadium operations building reno tells me that they see some other writing on the wall and are acting to make sure they dont end up permanently with those schools.

That's what I'm thinking.
Rice + $30 million in stadium renovations = move out of CUSA.

Find us a place that would take us.

The 30 million dollar renovations is simply keeping up with the Jones, not getting ahead. Tech is in the middle of a 20 million reno, with more on the way. Rice has to do something just to keep up. We all do.

80% of the schools in FBS wish they had Rice type money. Some schools have the student body, UNT and FIU. Some have the money Rice, Tulsa, Tulane. Only the Big boys in p5 conferences have both. A lot of them have neither, Tech, USM, Marshall.

Probably not. You need that type of investment just to keep up with your conference mates.

My sentiments exactly. There is a mini arms race in the G5 starting to heat up. Schools in the Sunbelt, CUSA, MWC and AAC are all ving to stay ahead of their peers. If you aren't growing you are dying.

(12-23-2014 03:46 AM)CoachMaclid Wrote:  The Writing on the Wall for now is that C-USA has deals on the books with Fox Sports and CBS Sports each for approximate $7 million per year. The Sun Belt is generating about $500k per year from its television agreements. As long as a $14 million vs. $500k disparity exists, C-USA isn't doing anything along the lines presented here. The current C-USA deals are up in 2016, so that will likely be the next time television value is assessed.

CBS puts $7 million in the pot. They did not take all of the games they were entitled to take this year and put more energy into sub-licensing AAC games from ESPN

FS1 scaled back its weeknight CUSA and carried fewer CUSA-CUSA games this year.

Between CBSS, FS1, FS2, Fox College, Fox Regional there were still 30 games left unselected for Sinclair to pick up, about 40% of all CUSA inventory.

CBS seems unlikely to even bid at current level. Question is whether Fox will expand coverage to FS2 and weeknights and online.

That's really not that big of an investment.

Find us a place that would take us.

Big West will take you if you provide a little travel subsidy, and you know baseball will get a boost playing Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine and Long Beach State every year.

Add three eastern schools from the SB, and the CUSA Texas schools join the SB to take that conference to 12.

There's really no reason to travel all the way to Texas and for Texas schools to travel to WV, Virginia and Kentucky. Before we were competing to take the TV money from the Big East. The Big East was the one conference that the smaller conferences could point to and say we can compete with this BCS conference. But now the BE is gone and the gap is too big. Why not save money and create more compact conferences?

This is a stupid thread. C-USA is much better off the way it is. That is all I have to say on the matter.
