Dude, I'm just being honest here -- you're wack in your thinking about G5 & P5. :)
You're talking as if G5 is a secondary class of schools in the FCS/D1AA! It's not -- nobody in their right mind thinks that. P5 isn't P5 isn't P5, and G5 isn't G5 isn't G5. Playing a 6-6 B1G team that majors in basketball isn't going to be better or SEEN AS BETTER than a Power G5 team that majors in football. You think they are. They're not.
If Marshall replaced Rhode Island game (that any mid-major would have stomped) -- with beating a 5-7 Illinois (who would be 5-7 if you beat them) -- you wouldn't rise over Boise St. You'd probably be #23 and Boise #24 (switched) when you both entered the rankings when you were undefeated -- but when you lost to W. Ky, you'd be basically where you're at now. You'd still have a weak schedule!
Now, since you didn't -- fine. If you decided to play 6-6 Illinois instead of 11-2 N. Illinois who's a G5 Power -- that would mean *LESS* on your resume and SoS in the eyes of analysts, pundits, the media, forum junkies, etc.
If NIU had the option and decided to play 6-6 Illinois instead of 12-1 Marshall who's a G5 Power -- that ALSO would mean *LESS* on their resume and SoS in the eyes of analysts, pundits, the media, forum junkies, etc.
Nobody thinks a G5 Power with 10+ wins is not-as-good as a 6-6 "blah" P5 team from the B1G or ACC. Akron isn't "wowed" upon by beating 6-6 Pitt. Marshall wouldn't be "vindicated" by beating a 6-6 Illinois. A team being a P5, by itself, doesn't mean a ton. It's the team IN the P5 conference and how good they are that does.
