RE: GODSPEED UAB!!! CUSAbbs wont be the same without you
You never know.
That discussion your commissioner had with the presidents at the other schools when they said UAB couldn't stay in Cusa just sounded like a tentative, ad-hoc sort of thing.
Maybe in a real meeting with presentations and so on, that could be changed--losing the academic status of UAB and UAB basketball will be a hit to the conference.
RE: GODSPEED UAB!!! CUSAbbs wont be the same without you
If CUSA allows hybrid members, then CUSA should go "all in" and bring in 3 other hoops-only programs and 1 football.
Either that, or balance out UABs olympics with UMASS football.
I still think, they will just go with 1 all-sports program... And I think JMU would ease the academic loss, while providing a solid brand name (beat Va Tech).
I hope the UAB fans will stop by from time to time to talk sports.
RE: GODSPEED UAB!!! CUSAbbs wont be the same without you
I think a question that will be interesting is which way the vote goes-
is it voting to expel UAB
or is it voting to modify the by-laws enabling UAB to stay
I could see some schools voting differently based on which way the question is asked.

UAB is a much better academic school than JMU. UAB is a nationally known university. JMU is barely known regionally. Furthermore, JMU athletics are just plain aweful.
Drop the JMU to CUSA dream. There is no way that truck stop on I-81 with a half-built stadium will ever be seriously considered as a FBS school.

To all the UAB fans many of us share in your heartbreak. How sad that a few self serving men can crush so many. I extend my prayers and thoughts. I cannot imagine if the roles were reversed.
Yes, I know this is a fan forum board but I hope conference mates and visitors to the board will show compassion and respect and stop the pimping of why this school or that school will be the replacement. It is not the time or place.

Barely known regionally? Son, get a grip. Unlike your flawless spelling, your argument is simply, uh, "aweful."
Let's put it this way--most state universities get their academic respect in the academic community by their graduate and professional programs, and in the fields of medicine and medical engineering UAB is nationally renown.

I am going to be a broken record today. It should be UAB's decision what to do. I hope they stay in CUSA for all other sports. If we contractually have to, we can add one football only school to fill in. Perhaps make an arrangement with BYU or another independent. There is not reason to go all crazy with going to 16 adding more schools. 14 was already too many schools as is IMO.

I beg to differ. It shouldn't be UABs decision. They are being run by fools. We don't need an anchor, and that's what they are with that President and BOT. To let them stay would be tantamount to letting them have their cake and eat it too.
They turned their backs on their fans... NOT CUSA.
Watts deserves to be tarred and feathered. I want that man nowhere near CUSA hoops.

Wow. Who gives a shi about academics? Really?
This conference needs a GOOD football team to replace UAB. Academics be damned. SOS and respect nationally is already a huge problem. Adding another fcs team wont help much. The sunbelt champ, sure. They have proven their salt. Or ULL that brings a good team and fans with them to the conference.
