We're not sure because the administration has not said anything throughout this whole ordeal.

If the board of trustees ends all undergraduate programs there, then the entire athletic program gets shut down......everything.

That's the fear...that UAB will be shut down and turned into an 'extension campus' for UAT, thus gaining UAT the medical school, and with it, some additional hope of gaining AAU status. I don't think UAT gets it in any case.

When national media like Sports Illustrated makes such a report and you don't quickly deny or at least a tepid, "no decision has been made" I think the outcome is clear or it's the worst PR management in all history.

From what I understand, Uab's prez took the week off for vacation. He most certainly knew this thing was going to bust wide open as soon as the season ended.

UAB is in your footprint and you already have non-football schools in the conference.

I'm not convinced any sports are going to survive the hammer that's about to come down on Uab's head.

An Act of the state legislature and an amendment to the state constitution.
So basically it all becomes a political game. Farewell UAB football

wouldn't it be funny if this was just an elaborate hoax to build interest in UAB's football program?

UAB? I'd add 'em
As long as UAB adds the necessary men's sport(s) to maintain Division I status, I would support UAB returning.
App State/Ga State
Troy/Ga Southern
USA/UAB*
Louisiana/ULM
Arkansas State/UALR*
Texas State/UTA*
UAB gives the Sun Belt a seventh men's soccer program (App State, Ga State, Ga Southern, NJIT, Hartwick, and Howard) and third women's sand volleyball program (Georgia State, ULM).

UAB would be perfect for an Olympic sports member.
Adding UMASS football only would work for a twelve twelve model. NMSU only has 14 conference games so a four game agreement for basketball would work. Do the same with UMASS along with adding UAB would help basketball.

I'm pro UAB
not a fan of UMass in any form, I know they are about to get their stadium situation fixed and "once you are on a plane distance does not really matter" but I'd rather have more schools in the east and west we can all get in our cars and drive to.

I imagine that is the end goal or NMSU would be all sports.
Getting three new members that all the schools are happy with might take five or six years. A temporary agreement helps gaining exposure and a championship game .
The play off money is most of the conference money.
That money is the same per member for 11 or 12.
The NCAA basketball credits would be shared with basketball members.
The new media contract will be mostly digital like the MAC chances are.
