I'm pretty sure you start with comparative records against the #1 team and work your way down the top teams until one team has a better record. What I don't know is if 0-1 is considered a better record than 0-2, or if the zero win % for both makes them even. Complicating the situation is, if they are tied through the top 3 teams, do you compare records against Syracuse if they finish sixth, or jump to NC State since the Cuse are ineligible?

From what several have said on the UofL board, that is correct. I looked for the official tiebreaker rules for a few minutes on the ACC site and Google and struck out.

What I believe to be the case though:
-A record of 0-1 is treated the same as 0-2 for common opponents since it's the same winning %
-Syracuse does count when working your way down the standings to find an opponent that the tied teams have varying winning %'s against.

If UofL and UNC both end up tied in 4th at 11-7 and each winless against the top 3 seeds, it likely comes down records against some combination of Cuse, Pitt, NC State, and Miami. It's still too early to determine who from that group may finish 6th, & someone among those 4 could end up tied with UofL/UNC also. Syracuse is already tied with UNC at the moment, but they have a brutal final 3 games so I doubt they make it to 11-7. Currently it looks like this:

UofL: 4-2 against those 4 (2-0 vs Pitt & Miami, 0-1 vs Cuse and NC State)
UNC: 2-2 against those 4 (1-0 vs Syracuse, 1-1 vs NC State, 0-1 vs Pitt) + @ Miami on 2/28

That would mean that UNC would get the four seed if either Syracuse or NC State finish sixth, unless one of Louisville's two hypothetical losses were to be to FSU instead of both to ND and UVa. If Syracuse also ties (which they could do just by beating NC State) the situation would become a lot more complicated if not for the fact they are not in the tournament.

I guess it's just easier to wait for the last three games to play out.

Just a gut feeling...Cuse wins 2 out 3 games to finish with 20 wins.

RE: Open Thread - 2014-15 Men's Basketball Season
While I always follow potential seeding, I'm not too worried. As you alluded to, even though the regular season is over in 9 days there are too many games remaining to make anything but a projection. It will be a bit clearer by Saturday night though.

If UofL manages to win @ FSU on Saturday that puts them at 11-5, so Syracuse would need to win 2 of their final 3 to pull into a possible 3 way tie for 4th. Pitt also has a relatively weak schedule remaining (Wake, Miami, FSU) and is currently 8-7, but I don't know that Pitt's consistent enough to win all 3 of those contests.

Cardinals look like They have put Jones behind Them. Playing with a spark that's been missing all season. My thoughts were a chemistry problem has been ongoing all season and sharing the ball now seems to be first and foremost since Chris was removed. That was missing all season. Go Team, Go Cards !

RE: Open Thread - 2014-15 Men's Basketball Season
A lot of early season action already today:

Louisville 81 - FSU 59
-Best performance by the Cards in at least 2-3 weeks. They dominated from the start and were up as much as 26 in the 2nd half. FSU is fairly mediocre but no one had blown them out in Tally this season so promising for UofL. I was curious how FSU was even 7-10 in league, but I see they've been consistent, as they're 5-0 against VT, BC, Wake, and GT.

Clemson 71 - Georgia Tech 63 (OT)
What can you say? Instead of blowing a lead today, GT came back from a 35-16 halftime deficit to force OT. Clemson dominated in OT however, winning the period 11-3. GT now has 12 single digit losses in conference play (3 in OT). Could that be a conference record?

Boston College 79 - NC State 63
-The Wolfpack went full Gottfried. NEVER go full Gottfried. This team can beat Duke, UNC, and Louisville, but now has losses to Wake and BC. They were down 21 and 17 at the half in those games. I'd say it's a reflection of their coach, who I potentially would pick dead last among ACC coaches if I needed my team to win one game and I was looking for in game coaching ability. NC State falls back towards the bubble. Big time wins but is the committee really giving a team with 13 or 14 losses an at-large bid?

North Carolina 73 - Miami 64
-Heels pick up a solid road win while Miami falls further off the bubble. Miami and Pitt probably have an elimination game in Pittsburgh this week. The Canes have to win their final 2 plus probably a game in Greensboro to have a shot.

It took stunning choking by Clemson just to reach OT, including inbounding directly to GT twice under the basket with less than 3 minutes left. GT didn't score their first field goal until 5 minutes left in the first half. That's not a typo. Gregory is a lame duck. Move on, nothing to see here.

NC State has not won the next ACC game after winning over Duke or UNC but about 9 times in the last 20 years. Part of it is a lack of horses, with less talent we have to play harder to win, then the next game we remain spent. That happened to us this year after ND and UNC earlier this year. Happened last year after a Duke game and Syracuse game.

Moreover although there is no empirical evidence, or no one is admitting it, several players looked really tired, or sick. When your two best players start the game with shots that are short of the rim, something's wrong. To start the second half our best player shot an air ball three off an open shot - his first airball in an NC State uniform.

They had spent time in Chapel Hill before the game with UNC and a lot of kids there have been sick the winter with various viruses, etc., etc. State's kids could have picked up something.

Or maybe they partied for three nights in a row? But Barber and Lacey seemed under the weather. Keep in mind that NC State does not have a med school so the day to day medical care at State is not the equal of UNC, Duke, WF, Louisville, Pitt, UVa, etc.
