Do really think there is any chance of his being fired this year?

If he is fired, where does the money come from?
keep in mind we are about to double our coaching expense in football, have a $40,000,000 building campaign, we are also looking for 10-30million for the rumored conference move up...

Unless we completely tank, JP will not be fired. When the Lawsons show up, we will again be in the 15-25 ranks and probably go out in the 2nd round. Maybe a 3rd round. So we will live with this for a while.

In the meantime AU will reach the sweet 16. I've seen them play this year. No talent, but unreal defense. If we had that intensity on D, we would be a sweet 16 lock every year.

not if they can't hang with Tulsa...

Should have said, in the next couple of years, AU will reach the sweet 16.

questions for the Miserables
1. Yes I want him gone - for obvious reasons already discussed.

2. No

3. Like my man said, not my job.

I guess I qualify as a miserable but I don't expect JP to be fired before the end of the season but if we don't do well in conference play he should be gone. Doesn't mean he'll get fired but he should based on what he's done.

Realistically; who are we going to get? Here are the only sort of big times jobs that may be open.

Indiana - Tom Creane
Texas - Rick Barnes
Oklahoma State - Travis Ford
Alabama - Anthony Grant
Vandy - Kevin Stallings
USC - Frank Martin

Strangely enough, I think that Frank Martin would have a shot at doing well here and would listen. The usual suspects - Brad Stevens, Shaka Smart, Bruce Pearl, Scott Drew are not happening. I suppose we will be able to nab a hot assistant or a coach from a mid major, but that takes a bad turn more often than a good one.

I'd take anyone with more coaching experience Josh is in over his head. I feel for him its hard knowing you near help but as the top guy you cant admit it.

The search committee did a nice job with the Fuente hire. RC had simply run out of options when he caught JP on his way to Kentucky.

A lot of people here seem to think that great available coaches grow on trees.

Arkansas - Stan Heath
Arkansas - Dana Altman
Arkansas - John Pelphrey
Missouri - Frank Haith
Tennessee - Donny Tyndall
NC State - Mark Gottfried
UConn - Kevin Ollie
Marquette - Buzz Williams
UNC - Matt Doherty
Wake Forest - Dino Gaudio
Maryland - Bob Wade
Maryland - Mark Turgeon
UNLV - Bill Bayno
UNLV - Dave Rice
UMass - Bruiser Flint
Georgetown - Craig Esherick
NC State - Les Robinson
NC State - Herb Sendek
NC State - Sidney Lowe
NC State - Mark Gottfried

And the list goes on and on. Some here are going to go hysterical over my inclusion of Kevin Ollie on the list. Ollie turned out to be an incredible hire; but the point is, that even a great program like UConn was forced to hire a coach with no D1 experience.

Even really good programs have a hard time attracting very good coaches. The very good coaches have a tendency to not get fired, or stay where they are.

The problem seems to be between those who think there are no options and those who think Josh isn't the best of what's out there. I've seen enough of JP to know we can do better.

Pastner we likely be around a few more years because as odd as this is for Memphis, Fuente's success is so much more important than Pastner's lack of success. Basketball recovers quickly. One or two recruits and you are decent. Football takes a lot longer. No one is happy about Pastner's performance, but it is not a big picture issue.

It's a huge big picture issue. Basketball has always and still drives the ship. Period. Sure, in a perfect world football is the bell cow but not here at the moment. You have to protect that. And the boosters will protect that.

I disagree and ironic as it is we are actually looking like a FB school not a bb school its good overall but change is always difficult but fortunate for JP gives him more space. If we get a bowl this year more will remember that then the mediocrity of our bb program.

Josh isn't just the best option, he is the only option. Let the season play out before you put him out to pasture.

His best years are ahead of him, and this year may prove to be his best yet.

You're right. We should have told him that he was going to have to earn the extension on the court. When I say "earn" I mean that getting the team to the NCAA tournament right away was unacceptable.

Everyone knows that recruits love it when the coach doesn't have a contract past the following season. They only need to know that the coach will be there for one more year in order to make a commitment for 4 years.

You know what recruits like? Getting a NBA contract. That's what they care about.

So you feel like paying his buyout, and covering the next coaches salary?

One trick pony. You should put that sentence on your gravestone. Do you know any of these people? Because I do.

Careful there, DOE, I am closely related to one and also know several others. Want to compare notes?

It would be interesting to search the archives and find the brood of vipers lauding Fuetnte now but lacerated him in the past for deficiencies. The mental midgets here are indistinguishable from enemies of the program in word and deed and have the maturity level of a spoiled three year old.

Everyone is going to get what they want this year. This season, we are going to find out FOR SURE whether or not Josh can coach.

If he takes this team to the NCAA tournament then he can coach.

No way they (the Fire Pastner crowd) will stay quiet with anything less than 2 wins in the tourney. And even then, it would depend on who those 2 wins were against and who the loss was to.

I'm in the fire Pastner crowd at the end of the year crowd but if he even gets to the tourney then he deserves to stay. I don't think he will get near that but I hope so. I'm pulling for the players, always will and always have. And as I've said a zillion times, I respect Josh a ton, but watching his style of coaching, schemes, substitution patterns etc. etc. he's just, frankly, a lousy basketball coach at this level.

It's startlingly hard to fathom that he was around Lute Olson and John Calipari for almost a decade combined and picked up seemingly nothing.
