Is TCU back in play?
So many of the CFB pundits had TCU on upset alert by Texas, their dominating win is probably more impressive than it should be.

Given that, are they back in the hunt?

I'd say no as long as Baylor wins out since Baylor would be Big 12 champion via the head-to-head tie-breaker.

Nice game Frogs but you still lost your chance in the 4th qtr against Baylor.

RE: Is TCU back in play?
As I have said before, the Committee did quite the job at setting this up so that Baylor is an anchor against TCU. They also set it up so that it is highly unlikely Baylor jumps TCU. If they don't jump them for beating them head to head then I highly doubt a win over a very poor Texas Tech team gets them anywhere this week.

If by "in the hunt" you mean for a playoff berth, obviously they are. Any team ranked #5, with the teams above them still having collectively several games to play, clearly is still very much in the hunt to move into the top 4.

Good grief, does everything this obvious need to be stated on this forum? 03-zzz

RE: Is TCU back in play?
I think when you have a bunch of teams vying for one spot, people are looking for a reason to hang their hat on one team versus another. Our close win over Kansas gave people a reason to knock us down in their minds and this convincing win erases that to some degree. But it is just one piece of the puzzle; still so many moving parts.

We have a strong resume that stands up well in comparison to most of the top 7- 3-1 against ranked teams, 4-1 against ranked teams at the time of the game, a good nonconference win against a ranked opponent, our sole loss a "strong" loss to a top team on the road, good efficiency and computer rankings, and good raw stats on both sides of the ball. We'll see how it all plays out.

TCU looks really good to me....they are fast, especially on defense. They look like one of the top teams this year. Unfortunately, that loss to Baylor stings. They really need Kansas State to pull off the upset

I'm not sure why everyone thinks the loss to Baylor stings more than any other loss. Let's face it: There are a WHOLE LOT of ways to lose worse than 61-58 in the last minute on the road against another very good team. Just ask Ohio State. Or Baylor, for that matter. That's actually arguably the best loss any team has this year.

Heck, since oddsmakers usually say that HFA is worth 7 points, it really should be regarded as the most minimal kind of loss, if a loss at all.

That's probably why TCU is ranked #5, in the thick of things, and ahead of Baylor.

More than anything else it is going to be doing nothing of importance while everybody else is playing for a conference championship that keeps TCU out.

That said, I think OSU is a much better team than TCU, Miss State as well.

RE: Is TCU back in play?
TCU is very much in the hunt.

MSU isn't gonna stay at #4 much longer and it's hard to justify either OSU or BU jumping them when they each have a really bad loss vs TCU having a last second 3 point loss to a Top 10 team

Now I'll also admit, the committee is really hoping FSU's luck finally runs out in one of their last two games so they and MSU can be swapped out for TCU and Ohio State.

Bama/Oregon/TCU/OSU covers all the major regions and conferences for the inaugural playoff and would be hailed "a success"

10th, how can you say that Baylor or Ohio State can't jump TCU, but TCU could jump MSU? You based that on a good loss to Baylor when it could be argued that MSU's loss to #1 Alabama by five on the road was as good or better.

RE: Is TCU back in play?
I base that on the committee saying they will give emphasis to conference champs.

TCU is virtually guaranteed to own a Big 12 title while MSU has little chance of it at this point.

Conference champ + better OOC schedule gives TCU the edge

Gotcha. I just hope Kansas State beats Baylor to clarify the Big XII somewhat and for the Great Pretender (Florida State) to get bounced by Florida.

61-58 - TCU lost to Baylor. Baylor will be in the playoff before TCU.

Assuming both TCU and Baylor win out - and head to head results matter, when all else is equal.

You lost to an unranked 5 loss team and played a charmin soft OOC schedule.

There's no hiding that.

It's why you're behind Ohio State and have no hope of catching up barring mass chaos.

Mass chaos has happened before. Don't mention what you don't want. It has a way of coming back to bite you in the ( ! ).

I didn't say it won't happen. I fully agree with the announcers who said that "I know a lot of people think the Top 4 will go undefeated but when you've been around college football this long you know how unlikely that is!"

But all else is not equal. Buffalo does not equal Minnesota.
