Ranking Boise ahead because they played but looked terrible against Ole Miss is a terrible reason. In the entire CFP discussion, I've never heard once "We assessed the teams and we just felt Oregon is a simply better football team than Florida State." Instead, they use the sabremetric of the week, be it Quality of Wins, Game Control, etc.

It's one thing if there was a through analysis done and they were ranking Boise ahead of Marshall after analyzing games and expects assessing they though Boise graded as a better team. That's not happening.
It was 7-6 going into the fourth quarter...terrible.

A one and done would have meant only five home games for Marshall. I don't see many AD's doing that. Louisville was supposed to play at Marshall so fans were already upset.

Houston, CSU, Stanford all needed games. Houston had 7 home games this year, not sure about CSU or Stanford.

I think Boise State 63 at Wyoming 14, versus Marshall 23 at UAB 18 also played a large part in how the two teams were ranked this week.

I don't think Houston was willing to go on the road this year, which was a big part of the hang-up with Rice. The Coogs have a lot of bills coming due for the great new stadium.

Rice got their home game with Hawaii, and UH found UNLV at the last minute.

RE: Boise State #23, Marshall #24 in this week's CFP Poll
CSU, with their 79th ranked defense, doesn't deserve anything. They can't stop the run, but make up for it by not being able to stop the pass either, both ranked in the 80s.

I understand that rankings are sometimes a byproduct of, and certainly influenced by, schedule. However, you can look at it another way. How do teams compete with their competition relative to how that competition performs on average? This year Marshall has allowed one team to score above their season average. On offense only once did Marshall not score more points than their competition gives up on average.

Marshall has the #2 offense and #14 defense in the country based on total yards and is top 10 in both from a scoring perspective. Our defensive strength is against the pass, which is CSU's only real strength on either side of the ball. We would beat them by 14+ on a neutral field. Boise would be a better game because they have better balance on offense and have shown they can play defense, even though they are very inconsistent doing it.

Does the 4th quarter count?

To say they looked terrible when they were down 1 after forty five minutes is ignorant

BC
Va Tech

Duke
Ga Tech
UK - He has called numerous times and they say don't call again
Wake
and a few others that I can't recall.

He is trying but its not easy. Marshall is good at home, and obviously, WV doesn't produce a lot of D1 prospects, thus its not much of an advantage to come to Huntington.

Thankfully, we have Pitt, NC St. , Purdue, UL, Navy and ECU all coming in the next 5-6 years. Its a start.

Then do a 1 and done like a lot of other G5 schools do. That's easier to get.

Unfortunately we need 6 home games a year for financial reasons. We don't get a lot of state funding and what we do get is shrinking quickly.

How about you call the Marshall's AD and suggest that idea to him? I'm sure he hasn't thought of it.

Does anyone here really expect that Boise would beat Marshall? Of course not. We all know Marshall is better, significantly better.

Yes Boise is better than Marshall - and today's loss to WKU just put an explanation point on how weak Marshall's schedule has been. CSU also lost, if Boise loses to Utah State... then all of a sudden the American's top teams are back in the playoff hunt too and Marshall is probably done because of SOS.

Marshall lost by 1 in OT to a team with a highly ranked offense and winning record. A Marshall win in the champ game plus a BSU loss tonight or in their champ game next week and there is a good chance that Marshall will get the Access Bowl. I know it would curdle your cream but that's fine with me.

Marshall probably wasn't going to get it if they went undefeated. You don't want to hear it, but Marshall is out.
