I read this morning that UTEP has won 7 National Championships in Cross Country, and we all know that (as Texas Western) UTEP won a Championship in Basketball. For MT, I think we won a Golf Championship back in the 60's.

So, how many of our current members have won National Championships and in what sports? For this list, it's OK to include lower divisions titles (i.e. WKU in Football Div 1-AA).

La Tech has 3 in football and 3 in women's basketball.

Rice has baseball from 2003

Charlotte will have one in soccer in a few weeks

USM has a couple in Track and Field.

For USM and UTEP, when people say they have national championships, are those team championships or individual?

ODU has several national championships in women's basketball (three I think), several in field hockey, several in sailing and a D2 championship in mens basketball.

ODU has won 28 team and 4 individual National Championships.
*DII Mbb '75
* 3 Wbb - '79,'80 AIAW (pre-NCAA,) '85
*9 Field Hockey
*15 Men's and Womens Sailing

INDIVIDUAL
* 3 in DII Wrestling
* Women's Tennis

We also have a handful of individual national titles - two in tennis and four in T&F.

USM - 1958/1962 UPI Small College Division National Champions (football)
1987 - NIT championship (Okay, so it wasn't the NCAA tourney, but it counts dammit!)

Our Track and Field ones were individual championships I think...

Football: 2 1-AA (FCS) National Championships

Basketball: 1 NAIA National Championship.

north texas only has men's golf from 1949-1952. don january was on those teams.

We should have one already, but since we played the Tarholes and the refs in that game, we came up just a bit short. If any of you ever play the Tarholes in any sport, recognize that the refs have been bought already. You'll need to bury them under a mountain of points to win.

We also won national championship in mens doubles tennis a few years ago.

And Marco won the National Mascot Championship in 1992, beating WKU and two others.

UTEP actually has 21 national titles:

Men's basketball (wow, I just learned this right now!!): 1966
Men’s Outdoor Track (6): 1975, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982
Men’s Indoor Track (7): 1974, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1980, 1981, 1982
Men's Cross Country (7): 1969, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1983 (unfortunately, this one got Memphised)
