Cincy and Memphis. Fuente will be an attractive hire after this offseasoon..or next offseason...but Good God the Tigers are as boring as UCF this season. Memphis plays funadamentally sound boring football.

Boring depends on which side of the stadium you're sitting on if you're going through your first winning season in awhile. :)

No Doubt. Memphis is playing very good football. I am very happy for you guys. 04-cheers

With Fuente as your head coach, I knew (two years ago) this day would come... Being good comes with a price, Memphis fans better hope Florida don't come calling.

It will not be a Florida type program rather a Purdue/Indiana/ Utah type program. He has not won at a high enough level yet.

The conference race has really cleared up. A few weeks ago, Positions 1-6 and 7-10 were kind of like throwing darts. Now there are only minor disputes, like whether to put UC or UCF at #2 or the battles for #7 and #9.

If he is smart, he will wait for the right job -- like Butch Jones did with Tennessee. Butch Jones probably could have left Cincy after year 2 (I don't really know why, but there were offers out there), but he waited for the right job at a historically great program in the weaker half of the SEC. Florida is a very similar job, but Fuente needs to win for another year or two to get to that level. He would be wise to wait it out instead of going to a coaching graveyard where you will never have the support necessary to succeed.

That's why I don't see him leaving this year. Next year could be a different story. Also, many people believe our DC would be the next HC.

Yep and further his resume and experience.

If Fuente continues to succeed, he will leave. Maybe it's Florida, maybe it's somewhere else. That's just the reality of college football at this level. Few know that better than UC fans. Memphis fans just need to accept it as fact and hope their AD can make a hire that keeps the momentum going.

Memphis has two big aces up their sleeves. Not saying it would prevent him from leaving, but let's just say he would a have serious incentive not to.

I say this with all sincerity from one fan to the next: don't let yourself believe that. Trust me. No one knows the pain of a coach stabbing you in the back quite like UC fans. They always leave. Even at the highest levels, they always leave. There's always the P5 or the NFL or God knows what else.

And why shouldn't they leave? The same fans begging him to stay now woud be leading the firing brigade if he has back to back losing seasons. The dates of coaches, fans and programs being loyal to each other are long gone.

So true. There are only 8 out of 128 FBS coaches that have been with their program for more than 10 years. Even at 5 years, the number is only 27. So, basically, when your program hires a new coach, the numbers say there is only about a 1/5 chance he will stay longer than 5 years and a 1/16 chance he will stay longer than 10.

Also true. There is no loyalty from any side. I really don't see how you can learn much from keeping a coach for 2 or 3 years and canning him.

Who said they shouldn't leave? Certainly not me. Doesn't mean it won't hurt as a fan.

After the Calipari "I want to be at Memphis" saga, nothing would suprise me. We had millions of reasons for him to stay. Literally.

I do think that we have the right AD now to make the correct hire for when/if Fuente does leave, and there is no doubt that the program will be in better shape then it was when he got here.

He's not going anywhere right now. At least not to Florida. If he does this again or better next year all bets are off.
