This game is looking more and more like a first game (usually an x-hibition game). I'm following the substitutions on the stat system.

We are going to end up beating them by 30... who cares.

Correct me if I am wrong, we have four games next week ?

We should go 4 -0. I'll be happy and optimisitic for the season with a 4-0 and 3-1 result. 2-2,1-3,0-4 will leave me a little worried for the rest of the season - actually pretty dang worried.

Final 64 - 52.

EMU made a ton of FTs to win the game.

The treys were not falling at all.

Essentially an exhibition game which happens to count...

Looks like Ward, Lee, Talley (?) and a cast of contributors???

All I am going to say is this -

Where is all this scoring power we have been hearing about ?

Let's hope it shows up against OU 05-mafia

I really liked what I saw from Alvano today. Made good decisions with the ball, for the most part, and looks to be a solid shooter. He'll be able to give us some reliable minutes off the bench. There's a reason he got the start today.

If I read Blue Ribbon Yearbook (and Murphy's comments) correctly. I think Murphy just might like Talley off the bench.

What I think was interesting is how Talley, Alvano, and Bond were all jockeying for the starter minutes until Bond's surgery (today). However, Talley got the most valuable minutes at the end while the game was still close.

Bond's finger injury really changes that. Otherwise, Murphy was going to find a way to play all three, with maybe one or two getting PT at SG, kind of like as a combo guard.

We are going to see a lot of rotations with say Ward at both forwards, the guard slots will see players switching between them, Price will play both 'small' positions, etc. etc.

Price will need to find his shot. If he is going to be a significant contributor it will be as a deep shooter; otherwise, he'll lose PT at SG to Alvano (and later Bond, when healthy).

I suspect that KSU-T is little more than a walk-on team at a small campus of a MAC school.

Nevertheless, Sasha Dailey, first game as a frosh, put up numbers which put her up there with Tavelyn James for best one game stats in EMU women's history.

If she can put up 2/3s of those numbers once in a while vs. a MAC team, the EMU women will be dynamite. Sweeney is also dynamite.

Should be fun to see the game vs. MSU Sunday (it will be available through one of those subscription deals).

MENS HOOPS

IT IS EARLY BUT IT DOES APPEAR THAT WE WILL MISS RILEY AS A POST PLAYER THIS YEAR

THE 3 CANDIDATES THAT PLAYED IN THE OPENER DID NOT REPLACE HIM TODAY, THEY HAVE THE SIZE BUT DIDN'T PLAY THAT WELL COLLECTIVELY TODAY - THE OPPONENTS POST PLAY SCORED 18 ON POINTS INSIDE THE PAINT INCLUDING SOME DUNKS , NO EMU PLAYER SEEMED TO CHECK HIM - HE WAS 6'8 AND 210 BUT WAS A MATCH WE COULDN'T HANDLE.

PETROS WILL BE COMING TO TOWN ALONG WITH HIS OAKLAND TEAMMATES ON MON AND HE IS A HORSE

WAS IMPRESSED WITH ALVANO, COOL CALM AND COLLECTIVE ALOND WITH WARD, TALLEY SOMEWHAT AND LEE SOMEWHAT AS WELL

TEAM NEEDS A LOT OF WORK - WE SHALL SEE, OAKLAND WILL BE A GOOD TEST, ESPECIALLY FELDER AND PETROS, LETS HOPE WE STEP UP

Wow, Alvano starting doesn't sit well with me. Talley is a highly capable point guard and works hard. And a seemingly nice guy on top of that. Let him have his senior year.

On the other hand...

Wow, what a steal of a recruit Alvano was that he start as a freshman over a solid senior in Talley. I always had the sense he and Bond were holding out for BCS school offers that never materialized. Speaking truthfully, borderline BCS players are pretty much what MAC/mid-major schools can hope for.

Definitely happy about the frosh (fair assumption Bond will at least partially live up to the hype). But still, I hope this was an exhibition type move- test out the freshman with start and minutes in an otherwise guaranteed win. And let the deserving senior play out his career as a starter after that.

RE: Game Day: St. Francis (IL) and KSU-Tuscarawas
Overall its hard to get a read off of this game. We shot poorly (awful actually) from the perimeter and did not rebound the ball extremely well, which made the game look closer than the talent level really was.

These early season games are always hard to get a read on because the coaches are still trying to get a feel on who the gamers really are, and who will contribute to the team. We seen a bench of TEN players get significant minutes... which is a number that will get narrowed down to around 8 by the time conference play comes around.

Surprises for me: #1 Okoloji. Good start to what I hope is a great year for him. We need a player or two like him to step up and give meaningful minutes this year in the post. #2. Jordan Price. Not in a good way either. For some reason, I had higher hopes for Price this season (obviously this can change)... but to play 12 minutes in the opener isnt a good sign. I had hopes that he would be one of the top 5 contributors to the team this year considering his perimeter shooting.... Finally, #3 Alvano. Great minutes today, that were productive as well. Hopefully he can continue to see quality minutes and grow before conference play begins

.... Oakland should be a great test for this squad. They played Iowa State very tough on the road tonight losing 93-82

RE: Game Day: St. Francis (IL) and KSU-Tuscarawas
Reading the last couple posts.

Not sure what to read by Alvano starting but Talley 'closing' out the game.

Murphy might be giving each player a chance to earn quality minutes during the pre-conference season.

My best read, as I have posted, is that this is a team with say 10+ MAC players and players will play themselves into or out of minutes.

Think of our top 5 guards: Talley, Alvano, Bond, Lee and Price. All five should be able to contribute at this level.

BTW, doubt this team will be as fun to watch as the team with GB III and Riley. Never knew with those two when highlights were coming, monster dunk or block.

One game does not tell a story, but here is UB's first game (vs. S. Dakota State).

http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=400586863

Two recruits from MI, Mory Diane and Raheem Johnson, combined for ZERO points in (combined) 16 minutes.

Dennis, I think we missed not having an exhibition game.

Oakland had two exhibition games and their tough opener. We had the equivalent on an exhibition game yesterday.

My guess is that Oakland is further along then we are.

It will even out in say a week or 10 days, but for Monday: Edge Oakland.

My hope is that Oakland comes in a little 'flat' after a tough game with Iowa State.

After narrowly escaping two NAIA teams in the preseason.

It's a lot of the same guys who did very well against last year, minus Bader and Mondy. Looks like Petros had a big game against an Iowa State team that doesn't start anyone over 6'8.

I still like our chances against them. They struggled against the zone both times we played them when Bader wasn't draining a ridiculous three. Don't have to worry about him anymore.
