Deputy Commish
Listened to halftime on the radio while at the game and the Deputy Commish of the MAC was on. It sure sounds like the MAC Championships at Ford Field are here to stay.
I don't mind this if they could just be moved to Saturday so more people could attend. I don't think that will happen though.

I have no issue with the MACC being at Ford Field, but I do agree it would be much better to have on a Saturday.

RE: Deputy Commish
ESPN drives the bus for the MACC game like they do for pretty much everything else in the MAC. If we move to a Saturday, we are probably looking at an afternoon game buried on ESPNU with other league championships going on the same time. I do think if it stays Friday night, the ESPN should step up and at least put the game on regular ESPN, not ESPN2.

Right now its signed thru the 2015 season. That was agreed to 2 years ago and would have been when our old ESPN contract ended. I would not be surprised if another extension was announced soon to go thru the 2019 season.

More like the MAC is desperate for money and to be seen (on TV) and is willing to do whatever it takes to get what they can and ESPN likes having a side side side chick (conference) for when the other 3 are not willing to do the very unnatural things they want (college football on a Tuesday/Wednesday)

I'm gonna have to find the link but I saw some interview where the commissioner was like uber shady and side stepping answering questions pertaining to the deal.

So we're ESPN's booty call, huh?

The booty call that is last on the call list and always picks up on the first ring.

It looks bad on TV. I don't understand why they wouldn't prefer to have it at a school site where the place would be packed instead. You give up the warm factor but it would be more exciting.
I don't see how it benefits each team to make it and then play in front of 10,000 fans in a building that seats 65,000.
It should be played at the school with the best Conference record. If it is a tie it would go to the team whose opponents had the most wins.

I think I remember that interview. I also got the feeling (just a feeling) that we'd see more midweek night games.

After last night and last years WMU game I really don't mind the MACC being at Ford Field...other than the Lions ditching us for the bowl game.

There is no upside to having it at a school site. If we can't get people to go to Detroit for an indoor game, what makes you think we could get people to go to Ohio to sit outside.

But, the home fans would presumably show up for a championship game in their own stadium a lot better than they do driving to Detroit.
Plus, it would be a college atmosphere, which helps. Empty NFL stadiums blow, no matter who it is.

I'm selfish. I don't care how good it looks on TV for the people who decided NOT to go to the game. I would rather be warm and neutral than freezing and in a hostile environment.

the Toledo AD was at the game and I don't think there is a love fest between them and the MAC. If the right opportinity came about i think they would jump. He does not like the weekday games. He think this rivalry played on the last sta of Oct is a 22,000 plus draw. I am sure people watching the game last night can sympathize with the fans at the stadium for almost 4 hrs in a wind chill temp of about 15.

You think Akron, Miami, or Bowling Green come into NIU and beat NIU in the MAC Championship? I doubt it.
