It is a good move long term, no doubt but to say it doesn't have some negs is naive. Im sure there are some kids that may love the prosepect in playing in an NFL stadium. How many I have no idea, and it may not I just don't see it as sunshine and rainbows.
A baseball stadium convert into a football venue could be diffucult to get just right as well.
look over Turner Field wiki site, it has 64 suites, space that is the 755 club, Delta Sky Club, etc….it was still be way to big for just about any G5 football team - I wouldn't want GS to play in a place like that regularly
There are multiple arguments for and against both venues. It comes down to which strategy serves the greater good for GSU. Buying this property with all its multipurposes and potential, then reconfiguring the stadium is the long term best scenario in the oopinion of most.
no doubt. I'm sure they will restructure a lot of that space. I don't think they are just going to paint a football field down there and call it a day.
And having a baseball field built, as well as student housing would help give state somewhat of a campus feel that they don't really have. The plus side of this goes further than just football.
Our campus feels like campus. How often are you on Georgia State campus?
Was there probably 3 times a year while I was in school, have been through it a couple times since.

I truly love being in the Fairlie-Poplar area at lunch time on a day like today. Definitely is a campus. Its just an urban one with sidewalk cafe's and parks like NYU.

it's just merely opinion. I much prefer a traditional college campus feel like a UGA, Southern, etc.

There is no one way to do things. I can appreciate both. Some of the nicest campuses are urban campuses in NYC, Chicago and Boston.

It will be interesting to see if it makes more sense for them to tear down Turner and build a stadium or try and convert, not sure what cost would be to build a say 30K seat stadium.

Nice video. There's a a renaissance taking place in the state of Georgia within the university system. Visited Mercer University campus this past weekend. Very nice recent additions and stadium. Kennesaw State, Valdosta State, West Georgia campuses are all enjoying big changes. Long time coming.

I don't think we will know for sure until we get in there and figure out what we can do. The stadium could be a house of cards. The plans only help so far. You have a 20 year old stadium that might not be able to take a renovation depending on inspection. We know the original Olympic stadium was built with the baseball outfield interchangeable.
So who knows what we can actually do?

I bet it will be a combination of both old and new. You can fix anything, it's just whether it is cost feasible. I suspect, given the current state of the construction market, that reconfiguration will be the route they take over building new.

RE: GSU & City of Atlanta Close to reaching a deal for Turner Field
You could tear down most of Turner Field and salvage what you can for your baseball stadium. Then what infrastructure is left build the new football stadium around. Might be able to save some money then starting completely from scratch. Good Luck. Hope we have plans to expand (and the need for expansion) by the time your project is finalized.
