None. It's a nice thing for him to say, but he has zero power or leverage in this situation.

That's my observation, too. That were the case, would not the SWAC and Papa John's Bowl both still be here? Just asking. And on whose watch was the Super 6 lost in this city with nothing done to at least be a part of the annual rotation?

Did you see David Carrington's message?

Can't speak for the other Mayors you mentioned, but after luring the Barons back to Birmingham, I'd be surprised if Hoover was in Birmingham's corner on this. Haven't seen Carrington's message yet, but will sometime today. Didn't he get "shunned" by the Commission recently?

The Barons moved from Birmingham to Hoover then back so I hope that wouldnt cause a big riff.

One thing Dr Watts needs to remember. Bell may not have administrative or financial leverage on UAB but he can make his Watts' existence miserable. Every street closure for construction, every sewer tap for a new building, every light switch in new construction involves the cooperation of the city.

I would expect that nearly all of the UAB administration and its professional staff live in those suburbs you have listed -- including the sport's coaching staffs. They therefore have a stake in the continued growth of the UAB programs in all its phases.

It did when Petelos (I think) was still in office. He didn't mince his words much on how he felt about that transaction. Sounded like he was none too happy about it...I wonder if that article is still in the al.sux archives?
