Jury still out on Creighton's Coaching Ability

Do I understand the criticisms of the coaching? Sure!
Do I think they're fair? Maybe.
Do I think we're all a little fickle and need to calm down? Absolutely.

In all honesty, I had given up on this team before homecoming and then they won.
Immediately I was hooked. Then...... The mess at UMASS....

Here's where I'm at as a fan:
1) As big of an English supporter as I was early in his tenure, it took him 18 games to get his first win.
2) When we talked recruiting in the past, we NEVER had this many commits this early in the year.
3) Both #1 and #2 give me reason for optimism.

But what we're seeing on the board is what many fans feel. They're tired of losses, tired of being told to embrace the process, and just want to see wins!

I believe that in the same way players grow and develop, Creighton will grow and develop as a Coach. Things will get turned around here.

Great post KPJ, agree with your points. All of these threads have been ending the same way. That was the most realistic and still optimistic post I have seen in awhile.

Seconded. Thanks for the level-headedness, KPJ. No one on this board has any idea what the next few years under Creighton will look like, whether it be good or bad.

I've been pointing out number (2) for a while now, but it seems to be discounted.

WMU did the same thing last year. We had some established FCS coaches interested and had some other coaches turn us down, and we hired a guy with 0 experience as a coach and 1 day of experience as a coordinator. That's why so many of us were so very down on the hire. It's working out better this year than last but the jury is still out long term. Give it more time, CC at least has shown he can coach at some level

Good post. Maybe that is why ADs hire HCs and not folks from these boards.

Sometimes they'll met a guy and go 'blah'. Next will be a P.J. or CC and the coach will light up the room.

If Creighton doesnt work out we should go after that coach from Wisconsin Whitewater.

RE: Jury still out on Creighton's Coaching Ability
All of us are tired of losing. We are tired of embracing the process, blah, blah, blah

I can tell all of you a couple of things: 1). I am watching UofMiami and Martin closely and they have been either competitive or respectable in every game. Competive losses defined by scores within 10 points and respectable losses have scores within 20. Martin is clearly out coaching creighton. 2) We were not competitive against CMU and took a huge step backwards. 3)Like most of us know, when your offensive game plan utilizes your QB to be a primary run option, he is going to get hurt and not play often. Now we are faced with Bolden to play QB and I need not say anymore. 4) We had the pieces to put together a decent MAC pro offense with Roback and our RBs but they were not utilized.
5) The next couple of games determine the final verdict. The way I see it right now, we have a better coach than English who might get us to a bowl but I do not ever think Creighton can get us to a MAC championship. Our conference has matured and grown with some good coaches: Carey, Solich, Lembo, add Fleck, Baber's, and Toledo's coach. I am not counting ENOS because the jury is out on him since this is his 5th year. In fact I think Creighton will be similar to Enos. This will be acceptable for EMU fans but it is funny how CMU fans want him fired. I would take Enos....he has recruited Michigan very well from day one. Lembo and Solich get a pass based on their track record. I just have not seen Creighton out coach anybody.......worried!!

Dear Luckeyone,
Give me a definition of being out coached. What does that mean? Fleck and Babers? Give me a break. Babers took over a talented team and they have a winning record, but have struggled. Fleck, even if he wins every game left this season he will still have a losing record. Maybe you have forgotten when English went 6-6, and followed that with 2-10. The jury is still out, in my opinion. How is Martin out coaching Creighton? Seems to me they weren't very competitive against Western last Saturday. Are you aware of the fact that Enos gets a bonus for recruiting so many Michigan players?
I think you are too quick to throw Coach Creighton under the bus.

Interesting about Babers and Fleck.

Babers took over a champ and lost his QB (Matt Johnson) the first game, I believe.

P.J. is interesting. He took over a team which used to win but hit a couple mediocre seasons and then the 1 - 11 season last year but a complete turnaround.

CC situation isn't either.

EMU hasn't been a champ since 1987. EMU hasn't been to bowl games this decade like WMU (2011, and also 2006 and 2008). WMU was hardly a moribund team when P.J. took over.

you're putting words in peoples' mouths here. please name one person who has said "i would find a Dan Enos level of success to be acceptable."

RE: Jury still out on Creighton's Coaching Ability
I am not throwing Creighton under the bus. However, I feel like I have enough information to gauge the direction of our football team. At best, we will win 6-7 games due to our strategy. QB situation was mishandled. Roback should have been the starter from day one. He rescued the team from losing first game. Bell is a better runner than Roback but what good does it do you if the Lamborghini sits in the garage because the motor doesn't run? This is my analogy for Bell being hurt.

Finally, everyone on this forum was ecstatic win RE guided eagled to a 6-6 record. If we could have three consecutive 6-6 seasons, the majority of us would have to thankful for such an accomplishment based on losing records the past 7 years. I would be grateful!!!!
