Thank God for Pandora.
EDIT: They also gave Vince Gill an award. That was cool.
Agreed. I only like a handful of country artists. I can't stand pop country and bro country.
The Vince Gill moment was awesome. He is such a nice and cool dude. Very down to Earth.
I realize that I'm dating myself some, but I could listen to Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart, Brooks and Dunn, Bocephus, Randy Travis, etc all day and all night. Blake Shelton and Darius Rucker also have that natural sound.
I agree about what you have trouble listening to and I'll go a bit further.....I also have trouble listening to guys who openly attempt to sound like a Dwight Yoakam but just can't create that sound naturally. You've either got the sound or you don't; and attempting to sound like someone else just doesn't get it done.
All those are good too oldtiger. I saw Dwight open up for Eric Church last month.

Music evolves. Pink Floyd and Buddie Holley don't sound similar

Some new country I like that isn't on country radio because it sounds well, country, is Sturgill Simpson, Randy Rogers Band and Josh Abbott Band. It's good stuff. Simpson sounds like old Waylon and Merle stuff.

I do like Eric Church and Dwight. A friend of the family is the guitar player for Eric Church.
That song sums up what's happened in country pretty well. Funny it was written about 14 years ago, it's even more appropriate today.
I love that song!
I think this comment sums up country music view of itself and its self respect. (From Country Universe)
Country music hates itself; it always has. It’s intrinsic to the genre’s ties to cultures that are broadly viewed as inferior or shameful– the rural, the Southern, the poor– and, however far modern country may have departed from the genre’s origins, that’s just far too long a history to outrun. So here we have what’s supposed to be country’s most storied, most prestigious “in house” celebration, trotting out a couple of pop stars to make the big show seem a little less unfashionable. Fine. It’s no mystery how or why we arrived here, and no legion of interchangeable dudebros half-singing the same “country” “pride” party anthems can change that this year or any other.
I sat behind Kix Brooks at a LaTech game once. Got some tickets from some Tech friends-- I was making fun of his big belt buckle and cowboy hat-- didn't know it was Brooks, at the time. Guess he had the last laugh

Carrie Underwood certainly is not "country".

I think it's easier to point out what isn't country than what is lol. And stuff like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Hunter Hayes and Thomas Rhett is not.
I like some things that probably aren't "country" per se, but might fall under the umbrella of or be relatives of country like bluegrass and southern rock.
BTW, if any of you like Bluegrass I'd suggest Town Mountain and The Steeldrivers.
Full Disclosure: I also like rap music, indie pop, 90's rock like STP and Pearl Jam, and classic Sinatra, Jerry Vale, Dean Martin and Tony Bennett type stuff. ---I'm all over the map haha.
