CMA Awards are huge for MT. If watching, note many songs that win or that are nominated are written or produced by MT alum. Also look for Sam Hunt to perform, a former MT football player and alum, and Hilary Scott with Lady Antebellum is a MT alum. Bridgestone Arena, where the award show is held, is also where MT beat Vanderbilt in basketball.
Pretty impressive night for us and definitely makes us proud!

I've worked on music row for over 10 years and am a voting member of the CMA Awards. I have never been to the awards show itself, however I go to the after parties. They are more fun.
I watched briefly. The only country thing I saw was Eric Church and George Strait sing together. There are only a handful of country artists I'd consider country. It's sad that when I scroll through the stations these days I can't tell if I've stopped on a country station or a pop top 40 or hip hop station.
Thank God for Pandora.
EDIT: They also gave Vince Gill an award. That was cool.

FIFY
Yes, he transferred after not getting any playing time at MT, but a former student is considering an alum of a school regardless of whether they graduated. So, he's technically an MT alum too.

Interesting. Is that how all schools define alum?
I would define it as someone who graduated from the school but oh well.

Agreed. I only like a handful of country artists. I can't stand pop country and bro country.
The Vince Gill moment was awesome. He is such a nice and cool dude. Very down to Earth.

Some new country I like that isn't on country radio because it sounds well, country, is Sturgill Simpson, Randy Rogers Band and Josh Abbott Band. It's good stuff. Simpson sounds like old Waylon and Merle stuff.

I realize that I'm dating myself some, but I could listen to Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart, Brooks and Dunn, Bocephus, Randy Travis, etc all day and all night. Blake Shelton and Darius Rucker also have that natural sound.
I agree about what you have trouble listening to and I'll go a bit further.....I also have trouble listening to guys who openly attempt to sound like a Dwight Yoakam but just can't create that sound naturally. You've either got the sound or you don't; and attempting to sound like someone else just doesn't get it done.
