The call was pass interference, the ball has to be catchable (almost positive that aspect of the rule hasn't changed). For defensive holding, the ball does not have to be catchable, and even for pushing a receiver our of bounds the ball doesn't have to be catchable (though I'm not positive on that one). Either way, if the call is pass interference, the ball has to be catchable.
I also think Cluley is doing a better job than a lot give him credit for. Our game plan when we get a lead gets very vanilla, and he made some pretty accurate throws on Saturday. Sure that pass to Tre was way off, but we've seen him make some accurate deep strikes. Is he perfect? No. But he's improving and with some help from the O-Line to give him some more time, I think his accuracy gets better.
Agree on Cluley and don't understand why some fans feel the need to tear him down. He is one tough kid that has taken some serious shots, popped back up, and played the next down like it never happened. Yes, he sails the occasional pass, but he has improved from the start of the season in a number of areas and is a leader on the field. He's a first year starter with shaky pass protection. He's completed 56% of his passes and has thrown only three interceptions. Take away a fair number of outright drops and all the occasions where he's thrown under heavy pressure and he's easily up around 60%. I'm excited to see what he can do next year with a veteran OL and a year under his belt. All the physical tools and intangibles are there and the rest will come with reps and better pass protection. At a minimum, he's a CAA level starter and beyond that time will tell.

Look at the folks ahead of Cluley. John Roberston, possibly the best QB to ever play at VU and a Walter Payton candidate. Vad Lee a Junior FBS transfer that started at GT. Andy Vailas a multiple year senior starter at UNH. Trent Hurley, a multiple year senior starter at UD that is firmly entrenched in their record book. I would concede that Strauss and perhaps Rocco are also better QBs at this point in their careers, but they're also upperclassmen playing behind one of the best pass-blocking OLs in FCS.
Cluley will be in the top third of QBs in this league next year with two seasons to play. We should be celebrating given our recent troubles at QB, not ripping a sophomore QB for being less than perfect in his first college campaign.
Real issues this season have been high number of injuries, poor pass protection, and inconsistent play on defense. That said we're a few plays away from being 8-2 and still in the playoff picture.

RE: Game 10 - Elon
W&M's CAA opponents have given up on average 224 yards/game, allowed a 58.7 completion percentage, and 6.8 yards/attempt. Cluley against the CAA has thrown for 192 yards/game, completed 62.8% of his passes, for 6.9 yards/attempt. That seems fairly average- he's completing a few more than expected and the yards/attempt is fine. The low average yards/game is a function of being run-heavy. If you count sacks as passes Cluley would have a 55.4 completion %, 5.32 YPA and 164.8 yards/game against the CAA. Let's break it down to the individual games/opponents:
Stony Brook: 206.1 yards per game/ 56.9% completion/ 6.1 yards per attempt; Cluley threw for 243/65.6%/7.6
UNH: 208/59.1%/5.7; Cluley threw for 105/60%/3.6
Nova: 280/55.3%/7.5; Cluley threw for 350/65.6%/ 10.9
Delaware: 206.7/54.9%/6.1; Cluley threw for 117/64.5/6.9
JMU: 250.3/64%/8.6; Cluley threw for 172/56%/6.9
Elon: 193.2/62.5%/7.2; Cluley threw for 167/64.2%/6.0
A few observations:
1) Cluley hasn't broken 200 yards passing in 4 of the last 5 games.
2) The Nova game cancels out the Delaware game.
3) Richmond isn't included in this list yet and they have probably the CAA's best pass defense at least according to the stats.
This is not to say Cluley's awful. If you plot Cluley alongside the W&M QBs since 2010 he fits in nicely next to them, with the biggest difference being he's survived the year while other W&M QBs have not.

I really like Cluley. He has not had much time to throw, and has been slammed. When he came off the field Saturday, I thought he was done, but he went right back in. He is tough, and can get the ball downfield. If he can get more protection, more good things will happen.

RE: Game 10 - Elon
I do hope Mosley makes a recovery for spring practice as it would be great to have two QBs performing at a high level in spring rather than finding which person will do the least damage. If he's what people say, he and Cluley will push each other in practices, which will be a great thing for our offense. But that's in the spring after we make a good playoff run.

Two FR QBs now doing practice squad reps. One of them will push Clueley & may beat him out.

Cluley is doing fine, but his arm strength is a big questions mark. It does not seem like he can make all the throws. Kevin R. said Mosley has a big time arm so I hope he makes a comeback next year. Arm strength isn't everything, but it is a good start.

Arm strength was a good start for Terry Bradshaw...
Let's hope Mosley can develop the rest of the package as he did.

What is an issue is providing him with consistent protection to allow him to stand firmly in the pocket and drive the ball.

The O line has been beat and banged up and do not forget about the loss of a
5th year TE who is an awesome athlete, plus others injuries to his back ups. You add all this up and and to have the run blocking we have had plus what protection Cluely has had is something of a miracle. There was a game we had were an injured TE going over the assignments with his replacement while being attended to by the trainers ! Give our guys a pat on the back for what they have done so far.
