Ok, so I move to Las Cruces and need to get some meds refilled and I call a doctor that's on my plan. The first thing the girl says when I call her is that they don't take anything associated with Obamacare. I remember getting all political with her and she got all riled about it but I eventually got my appointment only because I have the right kind of insurance.

So I go there for my appointment and to make a long story short, the doctor and a doctor who was visiting and I had a conversation about why they don't take Obamacare and she said the out of pocket costs are so expensive that most people won't return for further treatment and she doesn't want patients who don't have follow up visits for serious conditions because they don't have the money. She wants to treat people she can help heal, not put bandaids on them and watch their conditions get worse.

So she refers me to a cardiologist who I saw this morning. While chit-chatting with him I asked him if he took Obamacare and he said the same thing - he doesn't because people don't have the money to pay for the out of pocket costs so they don't bother to follow up with serious conditions. He said the change to the insurance plans from a few years ago to now leave patients with such high costs that they have to decide whether to pay their rent and feed their family or see a doctor. He said "Obamacare is killing people." So because of that, he'd rather not treat someone who needs continuous treatment knowing they will probably never show up for it because they don't have the money.

And he said he voted for Obama.

They sneak in here, read these posts, and then run back into the Richard Simmons room and call us racists.

I called a clinic my wife's OB sent me to for a semen analysis and they refused to see me because I wouldn't give them my insurance information. My insurance doesn't pay for fertility related stuff and apparently they don't accept just cash. They have to run the insurance anyway. Never heard of this before My thought was if my insurance doesn't cover it, they have no right to know I am doing it. Called another clinic and they were happy to set an appointment so I guess it isn't an Obamacare regulation.

I think I'm going the Concierge Doctor route. Attending an open house next week with a goup of doctors that are forming a new practice dedicated solely to concierge medicine.

More and more are just going to go to cash transactions. As Obama knows, poor people have a lot of cash to pay for medical care.

The only people I can honestly say this is a good thing for are the healthcare attorneys I know.

If you can swing it, do it. My Mother has gone that route with the same Doc I used to have, I just can't justify it for four of us. BUT, it's pretty much exactly as they advertise. It's amazing really, no time limits necessarily. Will accompany her to other appointments as necessary. SERIOUS back and forth between treating physicians in personal phone calls, e-mails and whatever else is needed. They have a "team" for this and a team for that and can call them into action as they're needed.

Good stuff, probably much like what many more used to have before the entire system got corrupted. Another couple years and I'll be looking into it again.

I've been sort of away for a few weeks, only peeking in a few times. WTH happened to The Spin Room? It used to be one board with somewhat interesting things to say. It's always had it's cumwads and circlejerkers, but it always had the good posters to balance it out. Now that it's split, the cumwads and circlejerkers rule both boards.
