New Construction at Rice Stadium
So without announcement, a new athletic suite is being constructed at HRC:

Hmmm. I wonder if it might be a model to show to potential donors ... with a goal to have suites ring the upper parts of the lower bowl.

Supporting the suite with cantilevered or skinny posts would also shade folks in the seats beneath the suites (though somewhat limiting their vision of high punts and kickoffs.)

Was that one of the options on the twitter feed? Have Sammy take a selfie, visit from the cheerleaders, have a suite built around your season ticket seats?

I can't believe that construction would cost $30MM...even at Rice.

Is that price figure just for the single structure outlined in the photo? Or the total figure for a number of similar suites? Or one part of a much larger phase of construction? Or are they gold plating it as the final stage of construction?

If I was designing a suite for that location, I'd build it *down*, not up. Use the existing surface for steps down into the suite, have the wooden platform that you see in that picture be the location of roof of the suite, not the floor. That way you don't interfere with the view from the upper deck or the concourse, and it would look less like a tacked-on structure.

Not sure what you'd do for ADA, though.

That is scaffolding, not a building frame. A temporary platform for something.

My understanding is athletic suite being setup at Rice Stadium is temporary. No more details available at this time. I'd use 'suite' loosely

A platform for a $30 million announcement three years in the making?

I wonder how long ago that picture was taken, and what repair required that scaffold. Drain pipes?

Maybe they are setting up for a surprise concert by Paul McCartney, post-UNT.

Maybe next year's Texas game is being moved to HRS and the Cougars kindly loaned us their bleachers kit.

Seems a lot just to get at some light bulbs.

Painting something on the concourse rim?

Stunt platform that the MOB will use as part of their halftime routine? Not sure whether they are going with ziplines, hang-gliding, or base jumping.
