So who do you root for in that ND-FSU game if you're a Big Ten team hoping to get into the playoff?
If you're the BIG you hope FSU wins BIG then loses at Louisville.
Notre Dame beats FSU and then loses to Arizona State.
I don't want to see Louisville beat Notre Dame.
I agree with two thirds of this.

Well, to be fair...this isn't even the stupidest thing I've read on this forum TODAY, so it has that going for it.

Unfortunately Terry, this time it is all or nothing. Very kind of you though to show appreciation for ASU.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Barrett fares against Rutgers this week. OSU will win because Rutgers' offense is average at best...but Rutgers' defense could provide Barrett his biggest test since VaTech. I think it will be a very close game.
PSU's defense will test him the next weekend too (especially with a rowdy first half Beaver Stadium crowd at night), but our offense will not be able to score more than 13 against OSU's defense. It won't be a real close game.

What's really going to matter is how many quality wins each team has. If they're looking at the end of November at two one-loss teams, and one team has beaten four "ranked" teams and the other has beaten only two, that might tip the scales. Just look at the AP poll this week -- the reason Miss. St. jumped to #1 is that they have 3 consecutive wins over teams that were in the top ten at the time (and will presumably all be in the top 25 at the end of the year unless they go into a tailspin).

I agree. And if you look at it that way, a 1-loss Notre Dame should get in over a 1-loss FSU.
FSU plays 3 ranked teams - ND, Clemson, and the ACC championship game.
Notre Dame plays 4 ranked teams - FSU, Stanford, ASU, and USC. They will play 1 less game than FSU, but ND did not play any FCS schools so that evens out (FSU played Citadel).

I think it matters more where the opponents end up than what they were ranked when they played. Based on what is being said, FSU gets no credit for beating Oklahoma State even though they are ranked 15th.

They will if Oklahoma State ends up beating TCU today and setting up a showdown with soon to be ranked West Virginia next weekend and then Kansas State the following weekend.

TCU is currently up 21-3. So it doesn't look likely.

We shall see where they land Tuesday. In my opinion they should get a jump equivalent to or even greater than what we saw with Arizona State.
If you take Michigan State and Utah against each other on a neutral field, I think a large majority of folks say Michigan State is heavily favored.
Ohio State will be well positioned to slip in there if we get some more big time losses at the top.

...if MSU beats Bama, and OSU takes care of business, as well as Oregon, it will happen.

RE: I'm going to accept everyone mocking me for this prediction
Right now it looks like the playoffs will be:
1) SEC winner
2) FSU
3) Oregon or Arizona State (but zero chance that both will make it)
4) TCU or Baylor (but zero chance that both will make it)
5) SEC #2
6) Ohio State OR Nebraska
So a lot has to happen for Ohio State to get in. But a 1-loss Ohio State gets in over a 1-loss FSU or a 2-loss Oregon/ASU/TCU/Baylor.
If the cards fall right, it'll be an interesting question to see if the committee puts a 2-loss SEC West team in the playoff over a 1-loss Ohio State. Either way there will be a riot somewhere looking to tar and feather the playoff committee.

What's gonna get really interesting is how they treat Baylor. Baylor has been ranked really low, but they did beat TCU and if they win out will win the B12.

Quote:Ohio State will make the playoff.
Solidly beating @MSU + beating Nebraska will help them. They will need help, though. They'll need an SEC stand out + all others having 2 losses (so only 1 SEC team goes).
1. SEC Winner
2. FSU
Two Teams From: TCU/Baylor, Oregon/AZ-State, Ohio State/Nebraska
VERY HIGH CHANCE that out of that 3-team combo & FSU, there's going to be one combo in which BOTH will have 2 losses -- or FSU losing a game. Everything's not going to pan out "as expected". It rarely ever does. Kind of like the NCAA tourney will always have a mid-major in the Sweet 16 -- things never play out where there's a couple cinderellas 1st round, then all eliminated 2nd round.
MOST LIKELY:
1. Florida State (0L)
2. SEC Winner (2L)
3. Oregon (1L)
4. TCU (1L)
I can't bank on that, though. Still a lot of games to go. :)
