let's all be real here....that picture is just a beautiful thing.

There's a story behind this picture. JMU does not send streamers to road games. They feel it's not appropriate to do something that would cause additional expense to our opponent to clean up.

Well - except this time. It was Jeff Hill's first year as head of the Duke Club. He thought it was a good idea and did not first check with JB and GP. So I brought them, and he brought them and needless to say they was a plethora of streamers.

COGS

So many streamer stories - so little time...

I seem to recall someone looking suspiciously like Dukester running around the UR Stadium track one year trying to collect the thrown streamers before they blew onto the field. Two year later (I think) at the Scotty game, Richmond City policemen stationed at the top of the visiting bleachers confiscated streamers from my kids as they entered.

Now that you'all brought it up:

Ticks WOULD steal streamers from kids. That's just like a tick to do that.

If I may interject a little something here; I was at the ODU/JMU game in Norfolk sitting across from the visiting section. It is college football at it's finest to see something like that and no, I don't want ODU to adopt the tradition. It's profoundly yours and you deserve it.

I'll bow out now.

I would give anything if the younger folk could see the way it was the final couple of years of MBB in Godwin. Our streamers were toilet paper. With the single-ply rolls on campus, you could heave them all the way across the court. They were the perfect weight for a long toss. I don't believe there was a student attending who didn't participate. It looked like one white sheet coming down. Surely there is an archived picture somewhere.

In my drunken defense.... I thought the security guy was telling me not to throw them on the field so we threw them over the Towson band. Apparently there were some issues between our fans and their band and he was actually telling me not to throw them toward the band. I'm thinking it's crepe paper - who cares. The interaction my brother and I had with the security guy might have had a little to do with it was well. First of all he was wearing old Bike coaches shorts and old school Avaitor Ray Bans at a night game. I may have blown his some kisses and my brother may have told him that he was a very handsome man a few times. In reaction to one of the kisses I blew him he grabbed his crotch and made a gesture to us. It kinda of went down hill from. We told him he was very classy but never cursed. The police escorted me out right past Dr. Riley, Dr. Rose and many others - not one of my finer moments. I asked the officer if he knew why I was being thrown out and he said it didn't matter, I had to go. He walked me to the top of the bleachers, said good night and he let me walk my self out. He suggested I watch from just outside the fence which actually wasn't a bad spot, just a little embarrassing. I usually know when to not push any further but apparently I didn't that night.

RE: Streamers / Football Event Staff / THANK YOU
That night in Towson:

I remember there was tension from the get-go. There was lots of security. They did not want us spreading out into the adjacent section which was totally reserved for their band, which took up maybe one tenth of the section. They wanted all JMU fans packed into that end area. Then the security literally spaced out and surrounded our section with all eyes staring in at us, I was concerned that they were being paid so much per ejection and that they were angry and ready!

One security guy had those mirror reflecting sunglasses, ala Strother Martin in Cool Hand Luke, and he had that Gestapo stare. The game on the field was not the only one being played. Suddenly the guy next to me starts bellowing out Corey Hart's I Wear My Sunglasses At Night. I laughed really loud, and the guards charged toward our row.......and proceeded to toss out that Jones brother a few seats to our right. Part of me went Whew! But most of me and the surrounding fans went: What did he do? What did he do?

Answer: He tossed a Streamer!

And became the legendary Streamer Martyr!

Another one of the great things Dukester did was bring hundreds of atomic kazoos to playoff game against Appy State. As we were walking into the game I heard an anouncement that no artificial noise makers were allowed. I started blowing mine about the time the game started and an usher asked me to stop or he'd have to confiscate it. I told him that there were hundreds of them in the stands and it would be a losing battle. Hundreds of atomic kazoos in the stands was a pretty incredible noise and alot of fun. My kids took those kazoos to games for the next couple of years and loved every minute of it. Thanks Dukester!

There was a way of hiding them in your hand in a similar way as how one might use a hand to cover their mouth when coughing. Similar to the court scene in Animal House as they coughed: "Snow Job" or something that sounded like "Snow Job"

Used the help of some board member MRDs to get in 500 noise makers at Appy state.

I've used the help of MRDs a handful of times to get streamers in - including the Va Tech game, though the rainy day was not too good for the streamers.

This thread makes me long for the days of the old CAAZone when it was fun to have conversations with friends and it wasn't all the negativity. Phil, Mike, Sam and others made it a great place to spend a lot of time. There was that one guy who was a real turd. I can't remember his name on there, now; but, he wanted to kick everyone in the nutz.

Mr. Dutchess is a goon! Throw him out! That same cop warned my son(about 4 years old at the time) about rolling up thrown streamers. I admonished him to be careful or Roscoe P. Coltrane would throw him in jail. He did not take kindly to that. The antics were needed though because that was not a particularly fun game to watch.

I realize that there are some on here that will not get the Coltrane reference, but it is what it is.
