You've gotten that?
When saying I am a stAte fan I have been asked that. Yesterday I told a lady I did not like the pigs. She said "but you live in Arkansas". So I told her why I wasn't a pig fan. It was either that or I was gonna smack her.

When I get the why I typically say, "you dance with the one that brought you." Then I ask where they went to school. Typically I get a couple of uhs before I get their answer.

A little bit different, but this really irritated me. My wife was in a wedding several years back. The bride and groom were both graduates of Arkansas State and so were my wife and I. The present that they gave out for the bridal party was a fancy tin ice bucket with wooden handles. The only problem was there was a raised Razorback emblazoned on the side. Needless to say we gave it away to some of our friends who actually attended Arkansas.

my cousin went to UAFS back when it was still a community college and not a 4 year UA system school
her 4 year degree was issued through a cooperative program with stAte
her husband went to Arkansas Tech....her dad, mom and step mom did not go to Arkansas and I am pretty sure no one in his family went there either
they called the hogs at their wedding reception

I got this from my sister once. She asked me three times who I really pulled for. Same damn answer every time.

Here in Mobile, when you meet someone for the first time it's very common to get "Bama or Auburn?". I say "Go Jags!" and I almost always get a "Yep, go Jags!" back whether their first loyalty is to Bama or Auburn.

Hello SB fans. Visit every now and then to catch up on the SB.
Looks like most everyone has the problem and same type issues with what is perceived by many that everyone owes their undying love for the school that was lucky enough 100+ years ago to be deemed " the state school". With TV pushing the big time exclusively it has gotten worse, with the casual fan who may not know a TD from a Field Goal, jumping on the band wagon. The reason I responded to this is some were saying EKU was too close to UK and "think there are too many UK fans" in Richmond. That's a tough one, but yes we are very close to Lexington (20 miles), but there are cat fans all over KY. They fight this battle constantly in Louisville too. And don't let them kid you, western ky u had the same issues. I don't mince any words when someone asks me if I am a ca-yat fan. NO! Usually does it.

Thing is most of us have just as much chance as any of "those" schools of winning our conference and a bowl game...

RE: Does this irritate anyone else
UGA definitely has a lock on the state of Georgia with Tech to a lesser extent but Atlanta itself is odd. As the defecto capital of the SEC there is a pretty good mix of fans of different teams of course with UGA still in the lead. The first question is usually if you are a Dawg fan. If not then they expect to to be a fan of some SEC school. Then I tell them I'm a Georgia Southern fan and I either just get an "oh" or they say something stupid like you're really good in division 2 and I they're a Dawg fan they'll talk about Erk. My boss is a Bama fan and he showed a little interest the year we played them but couldn't care less now.

I think Georgia is pretty ridiculous with its blind dedication to UGA, but I'm getting the feeling that Arkansas may have us topped in that department.

that was why I grew up to despise UGA. Where I grew up, there were so many rednecks in camo trucks flying the confederate flag and were always yelling "go dawgs"... ugh... I feel like I just lost a couple IQ points just picturing that in my head.

It's funny, you can always tell the UGA Alum from their casual fans.
I think they actually revoke your degree if you bark at the kickoff.

I will agree with this whole heartedly.
I have met many a UGA alum, and when they ask who my team is, and I say GS, that is the end of it. Most UGA alum are well aware of our history, and a lot of them do have some level of respect for our program... but it is all of the Wal Mart fans that ruin it for me.

My answer is usually something along the lines of "Ma'am/Sir, I have a Georgia Southern room in my house. There are no other teams. GATA."

Did UGA prevent the legislature from granting you university status for a decade and publicly attempt to stop it when it happened insisting that there should only be one university? Try to stop you from offering doctorates? Does UGA have a policy never to play an in-state team in any sport? Did they attack your pioneering distance learning program calling it needless duplication and then later create their own? Did they threaten to not accept other institutions credits if they cooperated with you? Did they turn you over to the NCAA for the sole purpose of scaring off your biggest ever basketball recruit? Did they get state law changed to prevent you, or any other, from doing the things that they did to achieve success?

I think it was 2 years ago in a live press conference in Little Rock, the Arkansas AD came up with this gem. "The great thing about the state of Arkansas is no matter if you go to school at Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Arkansas Tech, Southern Arkansas, you're always a Razorback fan"
AState fans made his Twitter living hell for the next 48 hours before he issues a light-hearted apology.
We've got all of you beat in the blind school loyalty department.

I still love to tell the story of a couple years ago under Malzahn when we made this big public deal during the January recruiting month that we would visit all 212 Football playing high schools in Arkansas in a 5 day period. I was working in a small Arkansas High School at the time, and all I heard about that week was how nice it was for AState to come visit the school (We didn't have any college prospects).
The Next Friday in a moment that I still laugh at, I'm making copies in the main office wearing an Astate polo, and Tim Horton walks into the main office looking entirely lost. Our loveable secretary at the time hated sports and had never heard of Tim Horton (He's supposed to be famous in Arkansas) She gets mad and scolds him for showing up without an appointment to see the football coach, tells him he had no idea where he is, and will get around to it when she's good and ready. For the next 5 minutes Tim Horton is left sitting completely bemused in the office waiting for someone to notice him.
Arkansas didn't suddenly decide to visit that tiny school one day after ignoring them for 5 years. They just visited because AState had done so the week earlier. Thankfully they were treated rudely by our head coach as well who recognized quickly Tim Horton didn't care about any of the athletes, just that he visited the school because AState had already done it.
And to think, Tim Horton almost became App State's head coach.

That would have been a good time to be sent to the office. It would have been fun to watch.
