I figured this would be a fun question to pose on here, as many of us are fans of schools in similar boats of not being the number 1 team in the state, or sometimes number 2...

but I hate it when people ask me what my team is, and when I say "Georgia southern", they reply with, oh, so who else do you pull for? as in because Ga Southern is not as well known, I obviously pull for UGA or Alabama or something.

Anybody else get this?

Yeah, i get the awkward silence after I say it or the "oh" response and then the subject is changed.

OMG! U JUST struck a nerve there, NCE!!!

When I say where I went to school, I ALWAYS get the response back, "I've heard of TROY. Where's TROY located? Is that in Michigan?" Hell no it's not!!!

That ticks me off something fierce!!!

It makes me want to say "go & ask your MOTHER where it is!!!!"

sometimes, depending on the person that asks, I don't answer, but just give them a really confused look, as if I'm thinking "why the f did you ask me that?"

We had my wife's family over for thanksgiving last year. We had JUST beat Florida in the swamp and her cousin was all happy about it. He's a huge UGA fan, so he loved watching Florida lose to an FCS school. He and I were talking about the game, laughing about the UF players blocking each other, I was showing him pictures from the game since he's never been to the swamp, etc, etc.

Then he said "So do you pull for UGA too?"

".....No, just Southern."

"Not even a little bit?"

Here in ATL at least when I say App State most know who we are since we played at UGA last year. When I was at the Michigan game in 07 none of the fans around us knew anything about us. Many asked if we were from Tennessee or West Virginia.

I was in Little Rock for a meeting, and a conversation about the pigs started. Woman turned and asked me if I was a Razorback Fan. When I told her no, she honestly looked and said "Well its so great to have you visiting us in Arkansas, you must be that group from Tennessee!"

Needless to say that conversation didn't last very long.

All the time. Usually it seems like they pity you. Here at work people know and will ask how TXST is doing but then go back to talking Big 10 or Big 12 football. OOC games against P5 get people interested in talking. There's a girl that went to Illinois so that was fun this year, but once conference start then they have to ask who most the teams we are playing are.

I was in a meeting in Orlando earlier this year with the CIO of one of my clients, went something like this

CIO "Hey are you a Dawg fan?
Me "No, are you a Gator?"
CIO "Yes, I went to UF"
Me: "I went to Ga Southern, go eagles"
CIO dropped his head

Usually what I get is one of three responses.

1. Yall are doing good now.
2. I wish Arkansas would play ASU.
3. Some long diatribe about how the universe will collapse upon itself if we play Arkansas.

But for real when Georgia Southern played in Chapel Hill in 2009 I cannot tell you how many UNC fans asked me..."oh so are you guys division 2?" Lost all respect for that fanbase. Pretty sure NC State thought we were D-2 as well and dang we should have won that game.

I guess I am numb to it. Going to State with Tech across the street and Athens less than an hour away, you get it ALL the time.

Wisconsin passes. I have been to Madison for a game. Just try to make it to one before November starts.

There was a funny picture out a few years ago that had pictures of Colt McCoy's GF, Matt Stafford GF, and maybe Tebows GF, and then a picture of some of the B1G's QB's GFs and it was not a pretty comparison.

truth is there are G5 schools I have to look to see if they are FCS or FBS, if not for move to FBS I wouldn't have a clue if Idaho or TXST were in which division

I once went on a job interview in Charlottesville, VA. The interviewer was reviewing my education at App State and UNC Charlotte. She then said to me "So I guess your a big Tar Heel fan?" I was floored, I said "No, why would you think that?" She explained because I went to UNC. I explained how, no I went to Appalachian State and while I did take a few classes at UNC Charlotte it is a completely different school than UNC Chapel Hill. I didn't get the job probably because I acted like she was an idiot, but its ok because she was an idiot.
