Akron's having a pretty good season. Why are they so low?

Because a streak of absolutely horrendous seasons is still fresh in peoples' minds. Aside from beating Pitt (which hardly anyone payed attention to), what has Akron done?

FWIW, If Miami had the same crowd Akron had on Saturday, we would have announced 15,000.

RE: MAC Avg Home Attendance (through Week 7)
Found this on the KSU website:

For every single game ticket purchased (Homecoming game), Kent State Athletics will donate a general admission ticket to local military veterans for the Golden Flashes' game against Toledo on Nov. 4. The tickets are Kent State's way of thanking all of those who have helped sustain this country's freedom (and to boost our attendance).

And the Toledo game is on a Tuesday night.

And last year at Akron, it would've been 18,000. It looks like the Zips are going to take a huge attendance lump by finally announcing the actual fans in the stands, not the 1,000s of corporate ghost tickets that go unused.

IMO, a good sign for the program that they can finally do this. Basketball has been that way for about the past decade. Though pre-Dambrot, when I was there, remember going to games announced at 2,000 plus, but maybe an actual 1,000 or so in the seats.

But Im sure, if it comes to meeting requirements down the road, these 8 to 13,000 crowds will again be "18,000 to 22,000" .... like last year, or pretty much any prior season. This seems like a litmus test for the university to gauge if they will be able to report true attendance.

I have no problem of announcing attendance as tickets sold plus students. Even so, not sure how Miami is selling enough to get to those announced crowds....how are they, Dick?

If I had to shoot in the dark, I'd guess that our AD crafted some sort of deal like EMU has with Pepsi where some company has been buying big chunks of tickets for official numbers.

RE: MAC Avg Home Attendance (through Week 7)
WMU's last home game was a cold rain hellish fest. It would have been around 16k IMO, it being Toledo and us seemingly improved, as a not-too-optimistic assumption.

Their next home game is the homecoming, the week after this one.

If we beat @BGSU (35% chance, IMO) -- then homecoming against Ohio will draw around 20k. If we lose, I assume it will be around 17.5k. Acceptable weather assuming, of course.

eCK: I suspect you are right, L&H...I believe there are NCAA rules as to how cheaply you can sell those blocks of tickets...I think you have to pay at least half price of the normal ticket value. You may recall a few years ago Ball State did a season ticket promotion where I think for every 2 tickets at normal price you got one for a dollar or something.....can't do that anymore. Again, BSU posters here may remember that promotion..it really did help ticket sales that year.

ESPN3 is spectacular for being able to catch all the road games.

But if it's raining in Kalamazoo, or scUM, MSU, ND are playing....well ****.

The overhang off the Seelye Center was a nice respite during that Toledo game for sure, but attendance was pretty damn sad.

I went to the Marshall Akron game, first time to the new stadium. It's a great stadium, easy to get to, had no trouble finding a good tailgate spot. Akron has a good team this year, shame more people aren't turning out to see them.

RE: MAC Avg Home Attendance (through Week 7)
So is EMU moving down a division or what? Their attendance is going to go down since their 2 games were Homecoming and the opener. They will miss the requirement for the 4th straight year. Not a shot at them but I am curious because their season average is pathetic. They got like 20,000 fans total last year.

I'm just curious as to when does the NCAA actually crack down? They aren't missing it by a little, but a wide margin.

I don't believe that the NCAA is enforcing any attendance minimums anymore.

I think once the barn doors opened, I.E most of the Sunbelt was let in, etc etc they decided to just take the money and not care about attendance.

24000 plus for Ohio is pretty darn good isn't it??? Has to be close to capacity doesn't it? They have to be happy with that...04-rock

Correct. So, people can stop obsessing over EMU attendance. In fact, people should stop obsessing over attendance completely.
