AS Roma president wants ND in Rome
oma president James Pallotta spoke at the Leaders in Sport Convention in London today:
“Why did I choose to invest in Roma? It’s ****ing Rome! We have one of the most passionate fan bases. All they want is transparency and honesty. The team? The average duration of the contracts of our players is 3 and a half years, we do not want to send away our players. The Stadio della Roma? A spectacular area. We’ve been working on it for four years, we got the ‘ok’ six weeks ago. The stadium has 60,000 seats could accommodate the holy war between Notre Dame and and Boston College, and the Pope could flip the coin. It will be open in two years, we would like if there were NFL, NBA, sometimes calcio competitions. I’m excited about how this will change the dynamics and bring Rome to a higher level.”

As cool as that would be, I just don't see the Pope flipping the coin. I doubt he's ever even seen an American football game. It'd be cool if he attended though.

I don't think ND would be able to convince BC or Pitt to make that trip and give up the home date. But I think if asked, the Service Academies would gladly accept that request.

The Fighting Irish in Rome? Eh. I hope it's against the Spartans if it happens.

It took me a second to realize it was a double entendre, I only thought of the actual lions (animal).

Why not play USC or Troy in Turkey near the site of the Trojan War? Or Jerusalem or Bethlehem?

Yes, Boston College would go for it. They are ran by the Jesuits. If they get called to Rome for a game against Notre Dame, it would be the biggest thing ever for them.

Actually the Pope might show up for that one. He's all about pan-Christian unity (so were the last two popes). The question is: would Baylor and the Baptists go for it?

Throw Liberty and SMU in there as well for some warm up games and it would be a nice 3 weeks.

I'd be willing to bet that very few Italians even realize that Boston College is a Catholic school.

Only "sometimes calcio" competitions? I would hope for a little more often than "sometimes" if they're spending close to $300 million on the stadium.
