OT: Temple fans, need Philly trip suggestions
We'll be visiting Philly at the end of October for our wedding anniversary and need some suggestions. We love history and visiting the sites most people wouldn't think of.
We'll obviously see Independence Hall and Liberty Bell, but if there are any other can't miss museums or little side things we shouldn't miss, please let me know. Food and beer suggestions would also be very much appreciated. We'll have a car so even a day trip would not be out of the question.
P.S. I was born and raised in Florida, so will I need a parka at the end of October? Not even joking with this question; I get cold when it's below 60!

For historical sites, I would also recommend the Constitution center should be added to your list. The Philadelphia Art Museum is certainly well renowned(and photographed -- i.e. Rocky). Also the Barnes museum is supposed to be fantastic.
There are many great restaurants both in Center City and Old City but I would suggest reservations on weekends.
To be safe, bring a parka.[/b][/i]

Don't miss the one of a kind Mutter Museum.
It's medical oddities, like stuff people swallowed, skulls, and 'things' in jars.
http://muttermuseum.org/
Officially: The Mütter Museum helps the public appreciate the mysteries and beauty of the human body while understanding the history of diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Also, Franford Beer Hall in Northern Liberties section. Easy to reach by the L rail. The neigborhood is rough and trendy at the same time
http://www.frankfordhall.com/
If you're a coffee nut there's La Colombe's HQ/rum distillery in the same area as the beer hall.

Here's a picture of it https://coffeeguru4iphone.files.wordpres..._51271.jpg
For a road trip you can get to Valley Forge National Park and nearby is the King of Prussia mall, one of the largest in the US.
XFinity Live! down by the stadiums is nuts to watch a sporting event. Or fake bull riding!?
This picture shows the main bar. There are four attached bars in each corner, including a small Victory Brew Hall.

I thought is was number 2 behind Mall of America. And that it would become largest when they connect the court and plaza. I also read somewhere that MOA was expanding so the title would be short lived.
Whatever, the place is huge. Though last time I was there the Court was 1/3 closed at the end while they get ready to merge the two malls.

MOA cheats with the theme park stuff. I think in terms of retail space, KOP is still #1.

Run up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum like Rocky and raise your arms in triumph ! You'll see a great museum as well as an amazing skyline. You can see the Rocky statue at the base of the stairs and you can even take a pic of yourself with an ECU flag with the city as a backdrop.
Other than that, there's the Liberty Bell and the National Constitution Center on Independence mall. There's a casino, Sugar House, I believe, which is new. Pat's and Geno's Steaks on 8th and Passayunk Ave. is IMHO, the best place for an authentic cheese steak. Reading Terminal downtown is a good place to eat. Eastern State Penitentiary in the Art Museum area is a unique place. Looks like a castle but is a former prison that is worth checking out. South Street is the funky place to go to hang out. You can throw a penny on Ben Franklin's grave across the street from the US Mint (another place to visit) for good luck ~ just off Independence mall. Xfinity Live sports complex (bars) down by the stadium is a good place to hang for sports related eating, drinking, watching games. Nearby Chickie and Pete's is a more local place (from what I hear). These are some off-the-top-of-my-head ideas....

If you want to include an art musuem in your trip I highly recommend the Barnes Foundation because it offers things that you don't see in the typical big city mega art museums. Its collection is fairly narrowly focsued and comprises one of the finest collections of impressionist art in the world. In addition attendance is limited and timed which makes for a much more pleasant experience than mega museums. if you think you want to go there definitely visit their website and purchase your tickets in advance.
I'll second the Constitution Center recommendation, especially if you are going to Indepdence Hall. It's in the same general vicinity. Also in that area is Independence Beer Garden. If the weather is nice it's pleasant place to have a beer. Food is pretty meh, but their beer is good.
The Mutter Museum which some mentioned is also definitely unique.
Reading Terminal Market is a short walk from Independence Hall and is a fairly unique expereince. DiNic's inside the market has great sandwiches.

I guess I'd be in a bad mood too if I had to live in such a depressing city.

Was this really necessary? I agree with the Philly posters; the only thing of redeeming quality in Miami is the Cuban food. Most of the city is gross.
To everyone else, thanks a bunch for the suggestions. I really appreciate the feedback.
