AP Poll losers: Nos. 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19. It's possible, but I'd say not likely. I'd guess 26-28, pending MTSU game. Maybe not even if MU prevails in that game. Tough as hell to break into "the club" when you're in an outsider conference, even tougher to stay.

I don't think being an outsider conference is what holding Marshall out of the Top 25, it's that OOC schedule.

Certainly some truth to that. But if a team is in one of those "club" conferences and beat the same schedule, they would be in was my point. Like say a Pitt(who lost at home to Akron). I know the transitive property doesn't hold water, but the reality is that Pitt gets respect if they win a few, regardless of worthiness, as do BiG/ACC/B12. Our conference? Not so much. Our conf. has to earn it over a long stretch, or even over multiple seasons of a team being very good.

RE: Predict - Does Marshall crack the Top 25 tomorrow?
I think they could and should. Marshall's schedule is weaker than some, but the pure domination so far says something.

Between dominating and being undefeated, I'd guesstimate something like #24. So many teams in front of them lost today. Some will jump them but #24 sounds right, then just work up from there.

I think if they do crack the Top 25 it will be at #25. One thing that may prevent Marshall from being ranked is that all of the teams in front of them in the ORV category won today (except) South Carolina.

In the Coaches Poll, Stanford (13), LSU (15), Wisconsin (16), Nebraska (17), BYU (19), and USC (20) all lost today. I'm going to say all but Stanford drops out of the Top 25 with LSU being on the cusp. Going to be interesting looking at the polls tomorrow.

Yeah for sure, I haven't been this excited to see top 25 polls in a long time. Today was a good day!

RE: Predict - Does Marshall crack the Top 25 tomorrow?
We've been here before. We know it takes a lot of time or a signature win to get in the club. You'll notice as of now the MU fans have voted no. In 99 we had the Clemson win to hang our hats on. We got attention for that and rode it to the end of the season. Without a "decent" win, I'm thinking 7-8 games to get in and then we should move up fairly quickly if we keep winning the way we are. The undefeated will all be playing each other in the P5 and knocking each other down a peg.

One problem we have is beating teams like that only makes our schedule look worse. Pretty sure no one thought Akron would beat Pitt right after we shellacked them. Everyone in CUSA on our schedule will have at least a good win when we play them, so I hope that helps.

Fox pointed that out during the game. It could be a double edge sword for Marshall if they continue to dominate their opponents. It could be viewed as either Marshall is really, really good or their competition was really, really bad.

Marshall really needs their remaining opponents to do well.

Based on where Marshall finished last year, what they had coming back and what they have done so far this year, they should already be in the Top 25.

We will be somewhere between the 26 to 30 range. Most likely, it will be 28. If we continue to win, we should crack the poll after MTSU.

they will be extremely close, but no. if they win next week then they should definitely be #24 or #25.

I think Marshall easily cracks the top 25, It is becoming obvious to the most casual and unbiased observer that Marshall is one of the best teams in the country. They go into the top 25 this week and continue to move up as the year goes on.

I believe based on the number of undefeateds left, you have to put Marshall at least at #25. But East Carolina should move up quite a bit, possibly to #15-17.

But that's a hard reach considering Arizona, Georgia Tech, and TCU have played really well!

If a team in the 20-25 range had lost, I'd say yes, they jump in. The problem is that the lower ranked teams didn't lose, so they'll move up , some of the upper teams will move down, but it'll end up being a reshuffle of the rankings, nobody new breaks in.

Marshall really needs their remaining opponents to do well.

A color commentator said that. That is absolutely a wrong statement. Dominating opponents shows how well you can play. Then playing other opponents ahows just how good that sin is.

For example, we could have beaten ODU 70-7.... thats crazy but then you look at their other games, nc state 13 and mtsu 13 and you say "wow marshall is really good".... not "marshall only scored that much because they are bad".... thats idiotic to ever hink beating a team by 14 is better than 40.

As far as top 25 goes, we had a few that should have been key losses (TCU, ASU, Clemson, SC) and only SC lost. However, so many ranked teams lost and now the undefeated list is down to 10 and it starts carrying some weight. We made mcmurphys ballot and i consider him the watermark for the top 25. I said with all of those losses above us, (the 26-29 that i hoped for) we would be #25, or 26 at worst. I still stand by that and im leaning more toward #25, because of all the losses, and our being undefeated in such a dominate way. Others will take notice. Earning respect one week at a time.

ECU wont be moving up after a bad win and bad showing at SMU. They may even drop a spot.

Watched both games and Marshall was far and away the more impressive team than ECU.
