BTW -- reality stinks, but UC is in a second-rate conference and wouldn't have a prayer of attracting a coach with the experience and pedigree of Tommy T. right now if it went to the open market.
You bring up a good point. Dantonio, Kelly, and Jones all came to UC after we were in the Big East. Who knows if we could attract this type of coach now.
Certainly we can still attract this type of coach. In many respects, the AAC is still the top of the G5, with UC sitting at the very top of the conference in terms of talent, resources, and success over the last decade. Our TV exposure is above all the other G5 conferences and we have the means to pay a coach as much as just about anybody in college football (considering Tubs has a top 15 salary).
We are in a weak conference and are, by far, the best equipped to succeed. For any coach and staff that's actually WILLING TO DO THEIR DAMN JOB, it should be relatively easy to come in and steamroll their way to 10+ win seasons. And of any program that would go after good MAC or C-USA level coaches, we can easily pay the most.
Because of our current great position to rack up wins, and future potential in conference realignment, this could be the best job in the country at which to build a resumé (if we want to attract a young and hungry coach). I'm not totally convinced yet that we should pursue good "lower level" coaches; I would also like to look at other mid to high level coaches and assistants, like Pat Narduzzi. But for the up and coming coaches like Matt Campbell we are definitely attractive, and probably the most attractive.

RE: Fire Tubs
At least CTT admits he's trying to build a program. Our last three hires just patched a team together so they could move on.
I don't want UC to just be a "stepping stone". Building a program takes time. UC doesn't have the luxury of churning coaches and getting 4 and 5-star recruits for short term solutions.
This sounds just like the ND and UT boards after Kelly and Jones, respectively, arrived. The fans were looking for an immediate return and it doesn't happen that way. Now ND is a winning program and UT is one year away. We were just lucky last year turned out the way it did.
CTT will have 3-5 years to build his program. By then, either it will work and we'll be a winning program or he'll be fired. I tend to believe it will be the former.

UC already has a program built. This statement sounds like he's taking a down and out program and starting from scratch. UC had won 10 games in 5 of the previous 6 years before his arrival. UC was preseason picked to win the conference. By no means do I think UC is a premiere program nationally but in this conference they are. This is a BS of an excuse.

Tuberville: "I take blame for all of these losses...that's my job. They hired me to win games." @FOX19
He feels the heat. Hope it leads to more than just lip service.
He's definitely feeling heat... if you think the people on this board have been up in arms, how do you think the Larry Sheakley's of the world who have given UC millions of dollars feel about geting whipped like they have the past few weeks. You can guarantee the fat wallets have Mike Bohn on speed dial voicing their displeasure every day and Bohn has in turn had a talk with Tuberville.
FWIW, I am not one of those people who believe Tuberville has been in complete retirement mode. I do think maybe he underestimated how much work he has to put in here. I was encouraged to see some fire in his belly after the Miami game this weekend.

There is talent on this roster is at the WR position and we have a stud starting QB but beyond that we aren't as loaded as some think we are. Even if they were healthy our starting two running backs are not good enough to start for most (if not any) Top 30 programs. Our DT's would get on the field at most top programs, we are starting a walk-on at corner and we are playing two underrecruited sophomores and a redshirt freshman at Safety.

What do you think the others were trying to do? Every single coach is trying to build a program.
Damn that Brian Kelly for "patching together" an undefeated regular season and using it to get one of the greatest football coaching jobs in the country. RAT BASTARD!
You may not want UC to be a stepping stone, but that's exactly what they are. There's only a dozen or so elite jobs in college football. Being a stepping stone isn't a bad thing either, it means that your coaches have built and maintained a solid football program. If they didn't, nobody would want them in the first place.
Oh, and did I miss the part where the UC program was torn down before he arrived? UC's football program had already been built and maintained by the coaches before Tuberville. All he was expected to do is build on what those before him constructed. Stop comparing UC's situation to that of ND or UT's as they're not even close to the same.
Without Mark Dantonio, Brian Kelly, and Butch Jones working their asses off to win and gain better coaching positions, UC isn't where they are today. For that, they deserve great thanks.

RE: Fire Tubs
I appreciate what Dantonio, Kelly and Jones did: providing much needed leadership with improved facilities, increased attendance and good PR. But what none of them did was build a program for the long haul - especially regarding recruits.
Every time a new coach left, he left the cupboard bare and we had to go through a "transition" year. I want a coach that will build a program that a self-sustaining.
Nobody wants to fail and if anyone thinks Tubbs doesn't care - they're wrong. No coach wants a legacy of "well, he used to be a winner, but now he's just a loser". They have too much ego.

All that said I really want Tubs to work out. I enjoy him in the press conference. I think he'd be a great ambassador for the program because he has been a very successful coach and has a lot of connections across the country. I'm just very worried at the considerable drop in his two years here.

Agree 100%, Mark. I do know that last winter he could not get a flight to Georgia for a recruiting trip because of the weather. He then tried to drive it and got stranded in Lexington because of an ice storm. I know because I got stranded that same night in Lexington. A guy totally checked out would have never left his driveway.

I can't remember his name, but that player ended up flaking out once he got to Georgia and quit football altogether.

He and the staff were in the offices on Sunday morning before most of us had rolled out of bed and had a cup of coffee (even those who go to an early church service). None of them have checked out.

Hiring a guy like Hughes may not constitute checking out, but it sure as heck didn't indicate dialing in.

Hiring Hughes was a mistake. People make mistakes, that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is when mistakes are left to fester and they aren't corrected. Hughes needs to have the clipboard taken away, at least temporarily. He may need to be fired. A new plan needs to be put in place. Tubs has to do something besides the status quo.

People do make mistakes. Whit Babcock for example...
That was too easy. Sorry. I will try to resist next time.
