A lot of Florida/southern born Knights don't know downtown as anything more than where they stumble around from 11pm-2am.

Can't wait for UCF downtown to take shape. What a win win.

I was reading a recent obj article. It seems that a big problem for our downtown area and attracting more employers is commercial space. A lot of that is because of the perrimore area. The other thing is I bet this helps with getting state funding for development. They need more investment in downtown. I have to say downtown tampa does a good job with the layout of its urban area. It's design and layout is nice. The water running next to it helps.

I'm not sure what you read but that doesn't make any sense. We have commercial vacancies and as someone else noted CNL and Highwoods for that matter are ready to build when the market is. I also don't know what Parramore would have to do with anything regarding commercial property from a variety of angles.

I don't know enough about Tampa to speak intelligently about it but from my times visiting its been completely void of street life in the Central Business District. Makes Orlando's CBD look like Chicago, relatively speaking. I know that Hyde Park is lively, reminds me of Thornton Park.

I'm with you on the water. Orlando is the only major city in Florida not on a major body it seems and that holds true when you think of most big cities in the country (which makes perfect sense historically). Lake Eola is a nice postcard but nothing like being on the Bay. Even downtown Kissimmees lakefront is the real deal.

Keep an eye on the I4 ultimate project that is starting in March. It's a 6 year overhaul. Employers located downtown at least have options thanks to SunRail. Mainland Center and Heathrow are pretty car centric. I don't think anyone would sniff at it if it was a 1 year project but 6 years, on top of all of the other stuff happening downtown, may cause some relocations. Especially if SunRail runs longer hours and weekends sooner than later.

I meant there is not enough square footage in the available buildings just not enough buildings. We have passed the inflection point so now we have to reinvest downtown

I don't know if I'd call Thornton Park/Eola Heights affordable. Check the prices out. A lot of multifamily combined with newer inventory like Post Parkside town homes/apartments keep the prices affordable for rentals, but the home prices are very high for mostly modest bungalows.

Sorry to be OT, but when did they decide to move the Med School downtown??? Wow, first I've heard about it...

No decision has been made yet, and why I said likely. However, the plan was well received by USF and being thought as a win:win for all involved and has major support from Mayor Buckhorn and other county officials who will likely sweeten the deal for what promises to be a very expensive undertaking to build an ~500,000 sq-ft facility.

The big driver for all of this has been Bolt's owner Jeff Vinick who is working with city and county officials to develop the 20-40 acres around the arena and rebuild the once promising ChannelSide project. IMO, I would be shocked if it doesn't happen...based on what I have heard. A downtown medical school makes perfect sense as it's down the street from TGH and would likely invigorate the number of residents that live downtown.

There's a big push (Tampa Mayor, Owner of the Lightning/downtown developer) are all pushing for USF Medical/Health to move downtown next to/near Tampa General.

USF has funds to build a new 6 story building...and they are deciding if School of Medicine is to move downtown...then thats where this new building will be located.

It would certainly be a major time saver for most Physicians, students, residents, etc...who currently have to go back-and-forth from Downtown & Campus on a frequent basis.

Didn't see KL's post....but yeah....everything KL wrote above and follow the links.

Again...I would be shocked if it doesn't happen.

BTW, it's not uncommon for major academic medical centers to have their medical complex located downtown away from campus.

Not only that...since some of the older Univ are located in smaller cities/towns...many times their Medical Centers are located in other large cities, i.e. LSU's Medical School is located in New Orleans, UT's Medical School is located in Houston, Baylor's Medical School is located in Houston, etc...
