RE: Enquirer coverage falls short in major college coverage
Some thoughts on this topics, which seems to come up once a month. The Cincy media is terrible period. I have family and friends, who live in other parts of the country, and they all remark on the lack of quality and coverage. The Dispatch might not be a good comparison, however the Plain Dealer is definitely comparable. They are a "pro-town" paper and typically cover college equally well. So much for the "pro-town" red herring. Someone remarked earlier, "it is what it is, always has been, always will be." Therein lies the main problem with the Cincinnati area in general - resistance to change. Resistance to change is sooo Cincinnati. Heaven forbid someone try something different here. Which begs the question - why not give UC more coverage? Why not try to increase our viewership or increase profit, instead of alienating a segment of the population? Can UC overage and Bungles/Reds coverage coexist? Finally, if UC is not perennially one of the top 3-5 programs in the country they are considered a bad product, do not "deserve" coverage, fans should shut up/go away, and just stop trying to field a team. The constant comparisons to osu, ND, Mich, Bama, UK for bball, is completely misplaced. Compare us to other urban research institutions, ie Pitt, Gtech or even Miami. Why not show how we do as well, with lesser resources, than 3/4 of colleges? The narrative was cast a long time ago and reality is too much for the media to bear in this town. The band plays on, regardless of the outcome on the field or in the classroom.
