RE: Defensive stats
Haha oh man that is bad. I always hear people saying they like exciting high scoring games, welp, this is your team if you're one of those people.

Last night he came in with a game plan to stop the run with six guys in the box and to play coverage with the other five. The problem with that is that when any Urban Meyer coached quarterback sees that they will automatically check to a run because when the Buckeyes are in their base set with a RB, TE, 3 receivers and a running threat at quarterback they have the numerical advantage in the box. 6 blockers against 6 defenders with two guys who can run. Alabama's personnel would have a hard time breaking even against the run when they are outnumbered that badly in the box.

It was obvious within two drives that the Bearcats couldn't stick with that strategy and have any hope of success. They needed to start loading the box midway through the first quarter and taking their chances with coverage, but that's not what he did. Smart coaches, on both sides of the ball but offense in particular, will run a successful play until the defense responds to it and adjusts. Ohio State found early success with their one back power play, much like Toledo did. UC did nothing to counter that at any time. At which point OSU gleefully called the same play over and over again with amazing success.

I happen to think that the Bearcats have decent talent on defense. Not great, not amazing, just decent. But it really doesn't matter who's playing if Hughes continues to put his guys in a position to fail.

My point exactly. He was this way at UCONN. People need to realize this guy was DEMOTED as the the DC at freaking UConn. Nothing more needs to be said IMO.

RE: Defensive stats
Probably the best things I can say about the defense so far is that Toledo and OSU seem to have great running games and 3 games isn't much of a sample.

Still I just read a thought provoking article about a two-time ex P5 Head Coach (arguably rather successful the 2nd time) chomping at the bit to get back into coaching (albeit he'd prefer as a HC), who specializes on the defensive side of the ball (specifically the DL) and is considered one of the absolute best recruiters in the country. Any guesses?

present

Oh and did I mention he goes WAY back with CTT? In fact Tubs basically got him his start as a football coach and even rented him a room in his apartment back when they were both getting started in addition to being in his wedding (betcha didn't know all that).

back in the day

Agreed. I don't even actually know what Orgeron did, but if it isn't a felony I could not care less. Lets freaking win.

RE: Defensive stats
There is a reason why he has never been a coordinator. A guy who gets paid $650 k as a position coach has lots of skills, none of which are based on results on the field.

RE: Defensive stats
I would kill to have Coach O as a position coach/recruiting coordinator or even DC at this point. He's not a good head coach, but boy can he recruit.
