when you move Oklahoma City to the Mississippi, and experience the worst flooding in almost a century...you too will get to experience the fun we went through.

I wouldn't suggest it, though...

That's not an excuse. We have three rivers that go through our city and the entire town has been underwater.

Flooding didn't get you on that list. Memphis is known for being full of trash and it was like that before the flood.

all they had to do was track down the parts that washed away and reconnect them.

the other "solutions" were WAY more expensive.

It was simple, too simple, and it was real cheap, but it was steep in cost.

there is more than one place where Memphis streams and rivers flow into the Mississippi...they set up several of those where they do...the whole project cost 900k

and it's works...It may even be back up and running.

Lol. no it doesn't. It might grab the empty plastic grocery bags, the fast food trash and beer cans as stuff, but do you any idea how much schit (literally) can leech out of stuff like that if it's simply "contained" downstream and fished out with a backhoe or whatever? Run off and non-point pollution are two of the hugest (is that a word?) pollution problems out there. Just corralling it all up and out of sight out of mind is not addressing the real issue in the least.

This is a band-aid approach and very environmentally unfriendly to say the least. all the bad schit is still left in the water. Hell, read your own article.

Quote:The great Mississippi River flood of 2011, cresting south of Memphis today, carries a mix of fertilizer, oil, pesticides, trash and farm runoff as it flows toward the Gulf of Mexico, say public health officials.

Some of it is nasty stuff, and officials say people are wise to be careful. They urge people not to touch the water unless they're wearing rubber boots and gloves, and wash thoroughly if they get wet.

"There could be a lot of untreated sewage coming downstream," said Wilma Subra, an environmental scientist and activist in Louisiana who has tangled with oil and chemical companies. "People need to be aware."

Ick.

yet we aren't on the list anymore...

That's what I said- out of sight out of mind. That's still gonna be some nasty asss polluted water with all the stuff that gets in the water supply before the "volunteers" can get around to scooping it out.

I wouldn't let my dog eat a fish out of that joint .

so why did we suddenly appear on that list in 2011 (the year of the flood), and then the year after we get 5 spots better...then we install the river booms, and drop off the list entirely?

I'm sure that's just a coincidence...

because that study didn't start until 2010.

Gotta get that crap cleaned up man. Volunteers alone just won't cut it. You need massive city funds put into the cleanup efforts. Then you need to retrain the public about the importance of proper waste disposal. The ground and river is not a trash can.

Because we have had 30 years of some of the most corrupt and pathetic politicians in America.

Willie Herrington was mayor for 20 years and they guy was a total joke and embarrassment.

Elections in Memphis are based on race and bitterness against white people. They would rather elect the scum of the earth as long as he is the right color.

The few politicians who aren't scumbags GTFO of town or want nothing to do with it. See Harold Ford Jr.

Its really F'd up.

This is an interesting thing about the metro area.

Inside the city, the women are not attractive unless rich.

However, the major areas just outside the Memphis city limits are huge (Collierville, Germantown, Olive Branch).

Everyone has fled the city and lives in these areas now and mostly the poor are left in the city.

Collierville and Germantown, parts of midtown and the cooper young area have some of the hottest women in the country.

I've have family spread all over the fruited plain and they are always amazed at the women here.

Do you want to know what's "trashy"? Taking delight in the misery of others. Is says a heck of a lot more about the person than the city.
