Tulsa-NIU announce football series
TULSA-NORTHERN ILLINOIS AGREE TO FOOTBALL SERIES
The first game will be played at Tulsa’s Chapman Stadium in 2022
Tulsa, Okla. ––The University of Tulsa and Northern Illinois University have agreed to a two-game football series, it was announced today by TU’s Vice President and Director of Athletics Derrick Gragg.
The first game in the series will be played in Tulsa on Sept. 10, 2022, while Tulsa will return the game in DeKalb, Illinois on Sept. 23, 2023.
The series-opening game in Tulsa will be the first-ever meeting between Tulsa and Northern Illinois on the football field. NIU, a member of the Mid-American Conference, has won two conference championships and four straight MAC West titles in the last four seasons, and in 2013 made a MAC record sixth-straight bowl appearance. The Huskies’ 49 wins in the last four years ranks second behind only Oregon for most victories among all FBS teams. Before a loss at Arkansas last Saturday, NIU had won 17 consecutive road games.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

I can only hope to live that long to see it. 2022 and 2023 are just around the corner, right?

Yea. That's ridiculous. A lot of the football series are made so far out on advance. I wonder what the stats are in terms of series made 7-8+ years out that are actually played as originally agreed upon.

RE: Tulsa-NIU announce football series
Incredible factoid about NIU's OOC scheduling- looking at the 10 year block from 2014 to 2023 there are 40 OOC game opportunities, assuming that NIU will fill 1 spot per year with an FCS team (that doesn't need to be scheduled far in advance) that leaves 30 OOC games to schedule in that 10 year block. As of today NIU already has 27/30 games scheduled with a rumored H/H with USF to be announced shortly, which would give them 29/30 spots filled. Here's how their 2014-2023 OOC matchups break down-
10 FCS games (assuming)
10 G5 H/H games (no CUSA or SBC teams)
9 P5 Away only $$$ games
8 P5 H/H games
NIU has 1 spot available in either 2016 or 2017 depending which one BC decides on, 1 spot in 2022 and 1 spot in 2023. That's it, unless they start going after the FCS spots. NIU has raised the bar.

Excellent, but tough scheduling, no doubt.

Yea there's no telling what the team will be like 8 years from now. Hopefully by then we won't be wondering what the hell we were thinking.

I really doubt we play Nebraska 4 times in 8 years. That was our interim ADs doing. I would have to hope that the 2019 game gets canceled or moved to 2025 or later at the very minimum.

Home-and-home with:
USF (AAC)
Tulsa (AAC)
BYU (Ind)
SDSU (MWC)
UNLV (MWC)
BC (ACC)
Maryland (BIG 10)
Utah (PAC 10)
Vandy (SEC)
I remember not long ago when we were told by many people on our board that no one was willing to play NIU in DeKalb because they don't want to lose and there was nothing in it for them. All the while MAC and other G5 programs were scheduling 1-for-1's with P5 opponents consistently.
Now we have an AD with the pull and weight of scheduling games that should have been going on all along. He also is about to unveil a facilities master plan for not only football but all sports. Sean Frazier is doing work!
So glad Jeff Compher moved on to East Carolina.

Kill 'em all. Every last one of them. (Remembering '03 jumpstart of MAC on Fox Sports, on National TV of Maryland @NIU, where my ex ran off with a guy who love turtles to Maryland and my cry for the MAC -- with PJ Fleck catching an awesome catch. And her new BF smashing everything in rage due to it all.)

Highly unlikely we play an FCS team very often. In fact, two years are already booked with 4 FBS teams.
