UNC May Drop Out of Top 25
The Tarheels should never have been in the top 25 to begin with. The fact that they were makes it obvious they are one of the media darlings. I expect them to drop to at least 26th. They know with the media they are never lower than 26th.

On another note Lou Holtz says, "Michigan being good, is good for ESPN"

Why do the Tar heels even play football? They should stick to basketball.

Well, to be fair it's not like UNC is a bad team. They have talent and they haven't necessarily performed any worse than the other 15-25 teams last weeks. I expect them to finish between 6-4th in the ACC which is not bad.

They played a strong ECU team who honestly has the talent to compete with probably everyone in the ACC except for FSU and maybe Clemson.

They may? THEY MAY NOT GET VOTES. ECU is a top 20 program, there is no question.

WV should be ranked considering how well they played both Bama and OU.

Texas is also missing half it's roster and played a much tougher schedule.

UNC will not get any votes, unless some ACC area voter is a complete moron. ECU manhandled them.

Brady Hoke and Will Muschamp are dead men walking too. Both will most likely be gone by season's end.

But how about Mississippi State? They went into Death Valley and took it to LSU.

UNC is not in the top 30. You have 6/7 teams ahead of them in the ACC.

Florida State, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Pittsburgh, and Louisville. Add Miami.

I had ECU ranked at #20 last week.

After week 4, I rank them as follows:

1. Florida State
2. Auburn
3. Oklahoma
4. Alabama
5. Texas A&M

6. Oregon
7. Mississippi State
8. Oklahoma State
9. Louisiana State
10. West Virginia

11. Baylor
12. South Carolina
13. Georgia
14. Clemson
15. Wisconsin

16. Notre Dame
17. Mississippi
18. East Carolina
19. Michigan State
20. Penn State

21. Rutgers
22. Nebraska
23. UCLA
24. Boston College
25. Southern California

26. Ohio State
27. Arizona
28. Arkansas
29. Stanford
30. Utah

31. BYU

I did not have Mississippi State ranked in the top 30 the first three weeks due to their schedule.

MSU 49 USM 0
MSU 47 UAB 34
MSU 35 South Alabama 3
MSU 34 LSU 29 >>> but they manhandled the Tigers for 57 minutes at Death Valley.

I had to move them into the top 10. LSU beat Wisconsin which appears to be the #1 or #2 team in the Big Ten

None of those teams are anywhere close to being ranked as high as you have placed them.

You put Arizona at #27 and also at #31

Quote:32. BYU
They are #16 or 17 at the worst.

I have corrected it. Thank you.

I was not trying to match the AP or USA Today rankings. These are my observations.

BYU?

So far BYU has beat UConn, Texas, Houston and Virginia

UConn >> 1 win against Stony Brook (19 to 16), 2 other losses are to Boise State and South Florida; Boise State did beat La Lafayette soundly but ULL also lost to Northwestern State. USF only other win was against Western Carolina with losses to NC State and Maryland.

Texas >> enough said

Houston >> wins against Grambling State and UNLV but loss 27 to 7 against Texas San Antonio.

Virginia >> Lost to UCLA; beat Richmond and Louisville.

I do not believe BYU could beat

16. Notre Dame
17. Mississippi
18. East Carolina
19. Michigan State
20. Penn State (maybe)

How would you rank the top 25/30?

They could not justify offering an African American Studies Degree if they just had Basketball players taking those classes.

RE: UNC May Drop Out of Top 25
I agree there are too many media darlings in the poll, not just U.N.C..

It is still dubious as to how strong Florida State is.
Oregon was pushed to the final minute by Washington State????? Does this scream #2 or 3.
Oklahoma has looked the part.
Alabama may prove to be middle of the pack in the SEC West.
Auburn is incomplete as well. Both they and Florida State are so ranked based on last year's performance.
Baylor???? Who have they played? Nobody knows yet whether Baylor is worth a top 10 rating or not.
A&M has blown out South Carolina. The question is do they have a defense?
Maybe Michigan State has something and maybe not?
Notre Dame should have been able to claim the Michigan game as a big win but in hindsight maybe not. Other than that they struggled with Navy. And I like the academies too but they do not belong in the same conversation with top 10 programs.
Ohio State is still in the top 25? Why?
Perhaps the most complete team I've seen this year is not getting any love. Miss State kicked a very decent L.S.U.'s butt all over Tiger Stadium last night and they get bumped into the top 20. Ole Miss on the other hand is ranked 10th for no other reason than pre season hype and the fact that Bo Wallace bears a strong resemblance to Goldilocks.

This is why the whole damned polling business needs to be gone. No matter what people say in the end the committee will find it hard to choose against the weekly propaganda that the Polls and networks pump into American homes for almost 4 months prior to their selections. We need and should demand a champions only model.

Keep fighting the good fight, JR, but I fear we are tilting at windmills. 04-cheers
