David Ash is done
From Orangebloods.com

Quote:Texas coach Charlie Strong said quarterback David Ash will no longer play football. Strong said Ash came to him recently and said he no longer wanted to play football after sustaining at least three documented concussions in his last three games. Strong said Ash will still be a part of the program and will help out the other quarterbacks on the roster.

Too bad he's a good kid. I wish him the best of luck.

I'm glad he's out. It's tough to do I bet, but I think we all know that it was best for him. I remember thinking during last season that he should hang it up for his own good.

Lifelong Sooner guy here, so it would be easy to take pot shots at UT, but this is sad. I hope this young man takes a path towards coaching. Might lessen the blow. I wish him the best.

Sorry to hear Longhorn fans. As a UCONN fan, it's tough for the program, but much respect for the kid to make this kind of decision. Even if football is king, you should put your own health and future first.

I am not sure if this is the case, but I hope he gets to use his scholarship to graduate despite this decision. Kid's scholarships for sports should be honored by the schools, if injuries like this happen. I am not the expert here...maybe they do.

Strong is a class act, I'm sure he'll keep his scholarship.

So, now Ash is out, how many players, wether lost to injury or anything else, is Texas down now?

At least 10 + 4 others suspended indefinitely. All but one of those were contributors. 5 were offensive starters.

I doubted Ash would last the season. Its best he doesn't tempt it anymore.

I shudder to think of what this is potentially doing to his image, Strong's, in the eyes of some of the more influential folks who weren't that enamored with him in the first place.

I think he's got support for kicking players off the team for violating team rules.

There has been no disclosure of what those violations were, but the suspicion is most were because they failed multiple drug tests. There were 2 arrested on a rape charge and everyone wanted them disassociated with the team immediately.

There have been 8 permanently kicked off the team. The starting center and QB are now out for the season (forever in the QBs case) with injuries. Starting DT is out for the season with a foot injury as well. So actually that bumps it up to 15 with the 4 suspended players.

Always a sad thing to hear when a young man's career is cut short by injuries.

Best of luck to him and I hope he finishes his degree and goes on to great things off the field!

Like Clint Eastwood said a Man's got to know His limitations. Ash still has His Health and long Future ahead of Him. Good luck and achieve your life's other pursuits.

You just hope he has no lingering symptoms from all the concussions he's already received. There's memory loss, tinnitus, equilibrium instability, headaches, and many other assorted problems that can last for years, if not the rest of your life.

I think Strong is smart to take these stands now, when it is Mack Brown's players he is disciplining. In a year or two, that could cost him critical support. If he has any honeymoon, he needs to take advantage of it.
