RE: UNLV Spread Update Thoughts?
Remember it's a long trip, Vegas is two time zones removed from DeKalb and it's supposed to be 98 degrees at kickoff. Not saying UNLV will win but these are factors that may keep it closer than it otherwise would be.

+1. We always seem sluggish when we cross that second time zone. Idaho a couple years ago, both poinsettia bowls, to name a few. Get tuke to coach this game and I may change my mind

RE: UNLV Spread Update Thoughts?
I would take -8.5 for this game. The Huskies D has proved it can get after teams, and the O is going to score. UNLV will throw all they got at the Huskies, but that won't be enough. Even with last years Idaho game, the Huskies still won by 10.

I'm seeing a ten point spread. I know NIU has been under in 4 of it's last 5, so maybe that's where to find value on this game.

RE: UNLV Spread Update Thoughts?
I mentioned this in another thread...but will mention it here as well. I know some folks in the "Vegas" business, they specifically give UNLV opponents tough odds knowing that the opposing teams fans will be in town looking to put down some money. And...from years of betting out there, they're also really good at projections (although 2 games in is tough).
So if you're looking for the "smart money" or good odds, no, I wouldn't look at this game.

It was hot in Iowa last year, and the Huskies did okay. It helps that the Huskies can rotate players in key positions.
I would give 10 or more on the Huskies.

It opened at 8.5 - most sites have it at 10 now.

I'd be hesitant but I haven't bet on sports in a while...
long road trip + night game
high heat
possible letdown after NU
Tough to give a home underdog more than a TD

Except that UNLV is really bad. Arizona beat them by 45 and last week the Rebels barely held off FCS Northern Colorado by 1 (13-12)
Unless something strange happens that keeps half the starters from playing, this game should not be close

Road games are tough anywhere. NIU spent a long time screwing around with a terrible Idaho team (weird travel I know) and a bad Kent State team as well last year.

You don't think the spread makers know this? What would you have the spread at?

The bad Kent state game can be attributed to the weather and Dri Archer. UNLV doesn't have either.
The stats in that game were ridiculously one sided. Had Archer not take a kick back and Durante miss a ball by a quarter of an inch, that's like a 30 pt win.

If it was different, it would not have been the same.

You could also say NIU does have problems in regard to weather, heat this time, and they don't have the stability of Jordan Lynch.

Yeah, you could, I don't think the heat will have a big of impact in the sloppiness of a game and general gameplan. It could certainly disrupt play calling if you have guys going down to dehydration. I expect them to be fully prepared though.
This may sound funny to some, but Dri archer meant more to Kent than Lynch to NIU. NIU has talent to continue to play, Kent wasn't afforded such luck. Not as many good players.
The talent showed itself in the stats. That could certainly happen again, the score could be closer than game actually is. In my opinion, I don't think the weather will make the game close like it did in Kent. That's just me. I'd be surprised if didn't cover, even with the travel and heat. I just think unlv isn't very good and NIU is significantly more talented.

RE: UNLV Spread Update Thoughts?
Would make it +13. However. home field gets 3 so +10. 50/50 bet at +10 considering heat, travel. Trap game. Will win, but close possible. Saying all this I will put a bet on NIU to cover. Will be at game. Blowout a distinct possibility if Carey gets team ready after big emotional win.
