The lack of detail is unsettling. Is he retiring or being pushed?

Ironically, I thought his broadcast of the Lehigh game was one of his better games. I only caught the second half but comparatively speaking, it was pretty free of errors and gaffes.

Warts aside, I will miss his enthusiasm. I had always hoped he would switch w/ Curt ( or whoever JMU chose) and do the color commentary instead. It's obvious that the players have always liked him so he seems to have a good feel for the team.

Back in the pre-internet 90's, when we were lucky to get one game on HTS, he was all we had...never missed basketball or football on my Walkman. :-)

I don't think I've heard him in several years now, because Kurt Dudley's been doing the madizone stuff.

I don't think this was a JMU thing at all. WSVA made a comment that it was time for a change.

Yes, loved listening on the walkman those years too. If you recall, for many years, Jim Britt was play by play with Schikman as the analyst. That was a much better broadcast to me as Britt was very good. I never heard why Britt stopped doing play by play. I still hear him on WSVA.

Loved Schikman's call of the blocked FG last Saturday though. Went crazy.

29 years of listening to Schick. Gonna miss hearing him. He"s as big of a fan as any of us. Hopefully he'll keep up his fandom from the stands with the rest of us.

Purely conjecture. Maybe he wanted more money for broadcasting both football & basketball. I could easily envision a scenario where he had been broadcasting the games for a long time on the cheap because he loved doing it and loved the Dukes. Perhaps he felt being taken advantage of and asked for more money. Just a thought.

Matt Jones's tweet said he is still solidly employed at WSVA. Plus it's the "JMU Ntelos" network that other stations pick up. It's not WSVA's broadcast on Madizone and other radio stations around the state. So, as I understand it, this is not WSVA's call. This sounds like JMU wanting to make a switch.

The "no comment" comment is a bit interesting as well.
