MacReady: We're gonna draw a little bit of everyone's blood, and we're gonna find out who's the Thing. Watching Norris in there gave me the idea that every little part of him was a whole. Every little piece was an individual animal with a built-in desire to protect its own life. You see, when a man bleeds, it's just tissue..... But blood from one of you Things won't obey when it's attacked. It'll try and survive. Crawl away from a hot needle, say.

Garry: This is pure nonsense. It doesn't prove a thing.

MacReady: I thought you'd feel that way, Garry. You were the only one that could've gotten to that blood. We'll do you last.

Original? 03-lmfao

The original was done in 1951 with James Arness (AKA Gunsmokes' Matt Dillon) as the monster.

You probably think the original Ocean's 11 starred George Clooney, too.

Didn't see it until I was an adult, but one movie I wouldn't let my child see is In the Mouth of Madness. Best horror movie of the modern era.

The 80's was a great time for horror flicks..

Yeah, my bad. Was just trying to distinguish it from the remake a couple years ago. Nevertheless, seeing the Carpenter version still gives me the creeps. Something about the isolation, the not knowing, the whole alien thing. That's tough on a young kid.

I was a big Stephen King fan until that book came out. It was one of the most boring, long winded, "how many words can I fit between two covers" books ever written. Ever since that came out I lost all interest in his work. But I will say The Shining was quite spooky, excellent even.

I read the book a few months back and thought it was good. He really set up the characters well and basically created a whole world in explaining Derry, Maine and it's history. You can't go into an 1100 page book and not expect it to be verbose at times.

As far as the actual movie goes? Part 1 was great, Part 2 was terrible and deviated wayy too far from the book. Then again, you can't really show a gangbang amongst 11 year olds in a movie.

I thought this was the greatest special effects of the pre CGI era. Just off the charts good.

Just a timeless classic and utterly gruesome movie.

Kurt Russells best film, imo. And he's got a lot of them.

Scare factor for me would be The Exorcist, Original nightmare on Elm Street or Alien.

Gore factor would be House by the Cemetery. A great classic Lucio Fulci movie about a 180 year old, late Victorian age mad doctor who kept himself alive by using victims body parts, including some cell regeneration. It didn't work work though, as he was nearly a maggot filled zombie who as very tall and powerful.

Takes place in a creepy old New England Mansion with a huge bolted off cellar. Small family moves in the house with a very young boy.

Gory as hell. Plenty close ups of arteries and jugulars being sliced, slow decapitations and throats being ripped away by hand.

Love that movie but you're right it is terrifying. I'm assuming you're talking about the remake with DeNiro and Nolte. DeNiro was spot on in that role.

The Tall Man! I saw the first one when I was about 12 and it scared me pretty good but on a rewatch in HS I laughed pretty hard at it.

Yes, the DeNiro version that came out around 1990, give or take. Scared the crap out of me.

I look back at all the horror movies from the 80's and laugh now... Except Cujo and Pet Sematary. Those two still creep me out. Pet Sematary more than Cujo though, because I'd just break that dog's neck now. But a little two year old with a scalpel, hiding in small spaces and slicing ankles and shiit? Helllll no!
