RE: Road trip to SMU game
Everything you could want for in terms of hotels and food are within minutes of the Campus. Whatever you are looking for, it's within a few miles of school.

But a couple of things right there on campus to take advantage of.

George Bush Presidential library - Just opened about a year ago. Half a mile, if that, from the stadium itself. I plan on going myself this year while visiting for a game.
Meadows Museum - Home of what is considered to be the 3rd best collection of Spanish Art on the planet, and the first two are in Spain. Has Picaso's, De Goya's, you name it. If ANYBODY in your family enjoys art, it is literally right next to the stadium - you'll walk right past it on the way to the stadium.

There is so much under construction and it is such a well planned city, that it is worth the trip. While there, go to STONEBRIAR MALL for shopping. There is an IKEA store there too.

& a Nebraska furniture going in. Which is bigger than ikea. Love frisco...

That place is HUGE!!

433 Acres....the size of 10 football fields.

We pass that about once a week going up to our son's house in Allen.

Something else that is growing like crazy; I took my wife over to UT Southwest for some tests this morning. I hadn't been over there in about two years. I've never seen so much construction. One of these days you won't be able to see the famous Parkland Emergency sign anymore.
That is my favorite hospital simply because they are the best. First, it is state owned so they take Medicare. Second, the doctors are all on salary so they have no incentive to recommend an operation that you may really not need. Next they are consistently rated the best hospital in Dallas. Lastly, I have had previous diagnosis from doctors about an ailment and decided to go to UT SW for a second opinion. Their second opinion was vastly different and in each instance....the UT SW doctor was right and the other one was WRONG. We are fortune to have this hospital which is also a teaching hospital. A friend of ours has a son who is a local doctor and they go there for treatment and they live in Fort Worth.

It is good and my wife makes that trip from the Ft Worth area. My wife found this doctor by referral because one of the "boutique" doctors in Southlake screwed up on her medication and the "real" doctor at UTSW fixed everything. So nice and easy going. Not the money grubbers like the suburban doctors.

That was one of my accounts for a few years. Noticed today they are using the same phone system.

Any suggestions on what places should be on my "must go" list?

Find a Twisted Root burger place. There are several in the city, the original is not too far from SMU, downtown Dallas, there is probably one in Addison.

Cristina's is a good Tex-Mex. Mi Cocina is a little better. Gloria's is always good.

Del Frisco or Bob's Chop House for upscale steak house.

Papadeaux for great seafood.

There are too many to mention. Dallas is ranked as the #1 per capita "eat out" city in the US.

For breakfast in the Addison area try the Original Pancake House.

A good watering hole for sports and people watching is the Black Finn. There have been several Tigers get togethers there. It's on Belt Line off the Tollway and that might be considered Addison?

I had one of the most incredible nights of my life at Papadeaux's in Richardson/Plano back in the 90's. I've loved the Dallas/Ft. Worth area ever since.

Plenty of parking? Yeah, If you get there 2 hours early. The Dallas alums usually meet at the Red Hot & Blue BBQ on Central Expressway (Hwy 75) a mile or two North of the SMU campus.

Last time I was in Dallas was 1979 with the Memphis Rogues booster club. We took a bus trip to Dallas to see the Rogues (NASL) play the Dallas Tornado at SMU's Ownby Stadium. Is this still the current stadium? Don't remember much about that game but the 500 mile bus trip was incredibly fun and memorable, well most of it anyhow.

Nope. They have a new stadium that was built on campus. Really nice. I enjoyed my trip there back in the Tommy West era. I remember Terrel Owens was on the Memphis sidelines in support of his college coach.

RE: Road trip to SMU game
SMU has one of the most beautiful campuses in America, and they now sell beer at the stadium, whereas, a few years ago, I was dismayed to learn that stores near the campus could not sell it. For good steaks and partying, go to Market Street. The metro, which runs near the SMU campus will take you there, but be careful not to get off on the wrong street unless you like to live dangerously.

UT Southwestern also owns St. Paul Hospital, and Children's Hospital is their pediatric teaching hospital.

Better make sure you allow time for parking. Went to high school playoff game there a couple of years ago, and missed the first quarter of the game looking for a place to park. Beautiful campus though.
My daughter is a junior in HS, and sadly SMOO is not on her list of choices.

OK, I probably passed it a dozen times. In that immediate area there are hundreds of good places to eat.
