Agreed. Just goes to show what true leadership at the top can achieve. Louisville sold their strengths, and got the ACC to ignore their academic deficiencies.
UC has superior academics/research, many years of winning football and basketball, and an $85M upgrade to Nippert that all can see being completed. Yet our leadership has failed to sell UC.
But at least we're the #Hottest (minor league) College in America.

Sadly, too many folks believe that when it comes to UC athletics - even those in charge of something simple, like selling tickets. How many commercials, caravans, promotions have been pushing the Toledo game. Finally, a billboard made it up this past week. Yippee!
Those that keep preaching that UC needs to fill the stadium each game to impress P5 conferences should be angry that UC invests so little in selling tickets.

Would have been nice to begin the upgrade of Nippert Stadium following our undefeated season, don't you think? The lack of vision is what has doomed UC...

That is puzzling to me as well!!! They should be doing everything possible to draw a 40,000+ crowd for this game, the old "we only have 35k seats" excuse won't work for this season. We have an opportunity to show there CAN be a demand for large crowds and they have dropped the ball thus far...

UL can't catch a break. Loses a sure TD and then watches the officials miss a clear PI.

Billboards? Why not just go door to door while you're at it. It's a university, not a pizza place or a talk radio show. That's a stupid idea.
Look, Rutgers didn't have advertisement, success, great facilities or anything else. It has nothing to do with selling the program. The ACC knows who we are, the Big 12 knows who we are. It's not a battle of perception, they have logistical challenges to meet and either we're in the plan or we're not. We can build up facilities and schedule P5 teams but in the end, we're located where we're located and we bring the benefits we bring within our limitations in terms of accessibility and TV viewers.

Agree about the billboards, but that's what UC invested in this past week to sell the Toledo game.
As to the rest of your comments....sad to see you have given up. But the B12 might just be interested in adding a couple of teams to allow for a championship game and give bitching WVU a travel partner. But it will take some selling - possibly a reduced TV share for 5 years until UC proves it worth....and an entrance fee of say $20 million to get the deal closed.
And before you rip "selling" the University, take the time to read up on how TCU and UofL got into their P5 leagues. It sure as hell wasn't "dressin' the ol' girl up and hopin' she gets picked to dance."

i don't know whether to be unimpressed with MIAs OL or impressed with ULs DL. For all the weapons that MIA has at the skill positions, their QB play leaves them vulnerable.

The Bad: Watching those Lousyville clowns with the ACC logos all over everything.
The Good: Don't have to put up with constant cut-aways to Teddy Bilgewater's fat mother.

They were a matter of necessity. While I am certain Louisville's facilities helped, beyond that, I don't believe fan fervor has anything to do with anything. If there was no need for an even number of universities, Louisville is still sitting here. As for the Big 12, they have a lot of Texas schools, I'm not surprised. It's not that I've given up, it's that I think the significant steps have been taken, it's all a matter of opportunity at this point, it's either there or it's not. I think it will be, but I'm not going to pretend a clever ad campaign will change the fact that we don't have an airport that is a major hub, that we're not a snooty east coast school or that the Big 12 and the ACC don't currently need a new school. Just takes time...

Given that Louisville lost quite a bit of their D-line from last year, I'd venture to say the canes have a suspect line and passing game. Duke Johnson is just very good.

UofL has a $85 mill athletic budget, no revolving door at AD, city that actually supports them, and a solid fanbase. More at play than just poor leadership.

Nothing made me laugh more than when Jesse Palmer kept glorifying Bridgewater after a dumb interception and David Pollack telling him that Bridgewater made a bad throw and they need to stop salivating over him.

You quote UofL's strengths, but they have just as many weaknesses especially in the areas of academics and research. Plus their TV market is much smaller.
But Jurich and President Ramsey sold the ACC on their strengths, and convinced them to not focus on the shortcomings. Ramsey was even quoted that he put much effort into convincing the ACC members that Louisville was no longer a commuter school with general studies. It worked...plus whatever other financial considerations were negotiated to secure UofL's invite.

You are correct, they did a great job selling their strengths. Also, helped that FSU and Clemson were campaigning for uofl as well. In this latest round of realignment, the ACC put academics and research to the side. This was a decision based solely on athletics.
An another note - I agree with you regarding the Toledo home opener. Once again there is no buzz. The athletic dept's marketing/sales group needs to get out there. Oktoberfest coinciding with the Cry-ami game is perfect for attracting a good crowd.

i know it's only an eight point lead, but it seems highly doubtful that the Canes O can win this game. Unless their special teams step up big, UL is going to stuff their O and grinding down their D.
As an aside, i wonder if Kaaya is the QB that the Bearcats end up facing.
